Great idea...except, most shelters and food banks must follow strict rules. I worked at a working Boys Ranch once. They could not grow their own garden. They could and did raise their own beef, pork and lamb; however, a USDA approved slaughter house had to handle the meat. Would not hurt to check it it.

Are you looking for show quality birds or production birds? Unfortunately, I don't know many breeders of Dark Cornish, maybe Mr. Blosl will be able to help more, but Danny Padget in Florida has some very nice Dark Cornish.

Thanks for the additional tip. Yes, I have been chatting with Bob about that and other things. I also live near Duane Urch and can ask him if he knows of anyone up our way. I have a couple of other names, but it doesn't hurt to have options.

Yes, looking for SQ/SOP.

Id still make some phone calls especially to some of the independent agencies like the soup kitchens that are run out of a church or parish, or a local womens shelter. They gotta feed folks too. I figure they might be interested because its free meat and the fact that state inspections come into effect after X amount of poultry is sold which the common number Ive heard a few times is 1,000 birds. Until you sell over that X number of birds your not legally required to be inspected/certified. Worst thing they say is thank you but legally we can't. It would certainly ease my conscious knowing I tried to feed people in need with cull birds even if legally they can't accept the donation.
