I know that is what they say they are....but they were very poor quality. Perhaps they crossed them with another line...I dunno.

I'm looking to add a heritage breed in the spring. Since I live in North Dakota, a rose comb, pea comb or cushion comb is a must. I'm attracted to Buckeye's and RC RIR's, and therein lies my question. The ALBC lists the Buckeye as "critical" but it seems to be popular these days. Is the Buckeye still that rare? I read on the RIR site that RC RIR are down to 50 breeding pairs in the winter. For a good dual purpose bird for a hobby farm (I don't show), anyone have input on the breeds? Duane Urch has both breeds, and since he's "next door" in Minnesota, I would probably order birds from him.

Buckeyes are getting better but both need breeders they will not disapoint!

IMO the average buckeye is a way better bird than the average RCRIR... but idk how Duane Urch's birds compare maby call and ask him...

Birds bred for the cold climes.
There was a BYCer not too long ago showed some wonderful photos of his light brahmas..he was in mind numbing northern Minnesota or some such...remember ?
Beautiful clean black and white brahmas , no back penciling..in the snow..what was his name ?

Duane has excellent birds, in any breed. Have you considered the Chantecler? http://www.chanteclerfanciersinternational.org has several members in your region.

Yes, guess I should have mentioned Chantecler also. I do have some Buff Chantecler, and I was thinking of breeding them to help get them added to APA, but I have not been impressed with them this winter. I would switch to White Chantecler.
