Bob Blosl's Heritage Large Fowl Thread

Evening all......I went to the Poultry Show down in Newnan, Ga this weekend. MANY more Large Fowl than the Dalton show. I am trying to find the camera (Polish trick...take lots of pix and lose the camera....sorry)

There was an absolutely enormous White Rock rooster, owned by Danny Padgett, that won best in American Class (sorry, terminology is probably not correct). I am guessing this guy was 15lbs. Huge and beautiful. Also some very nice RIR, SCs. Its amazing once you see some really nice, properly colored, typey birds, how everything else looks just like a "chicken". Once I find camera, will post pix.

I also got a dozen Barred Rock eggs from a lady who owns BRs from the Paul Hardy strain.....going into the 'bator tonight.

As for my bidding on a UK birds. The proceeds for the Harmony Hill imports go towards a drug rehab ministry. I can afford a $100 donation and a few years in correcting the type. The others are at $5000 and still have not met the reserve. My guess is these will hit higher than I can afford. No harm done. Just got the bidding started! So who is going to bid next?

Question .... Were there other Barred Rocks? I wonder why it seems like they lack yellow legs. I have noticed that on others I used to have, as well.

Danny Padgett KNOWS how to raise good birds! He also has some fantastic Black Orpingtons. Probally the best around!​

I like Danny too. I may go as far as Danny being one of the best who is showing around. BUT, I'm pretty sure you know Mr. More is still alive, and even Danny would concede, that Mr. More is the very best in the past and still. For the last 40 years or More. Now since Mr More has not shown anywhere in the last 4 years, nor does he intend too, being near or at 90 years of age, Danny is prolly the best Black Orp breeder around who is still showing would be my best guess at what Danny would rather hear. I have Mr More's line, and I don't even want to think I am anywhere near his truelly deserved legendary status. This is just my opinion.​

New DHeritage Delawares hatch along with EEs & Marans

17 out of 20 that I set hatched. 3 were clear & one of the 17 I put to sleep because it had a twisted neck & couldn't stand. Does anyone know what causes that? Every time I picked it up & righted it it would flip over flat on it's back with a horribly twisted neck.

sweandgrow, congrats on the hatch!!! I've heard sometimes the twisted neck is a vitamin deficiency? Don't quote me on that. I had a EE/Polish mix hatch (for my daughter) and its head was tucked to its chest for several hours. I feared having to cull it, but it righted itself and is, in fact, one of the BIGGEST chicks I have in the brooder right now!
