This is one of my favorite pitures I took last year in the fall. Matt 1616 male that he had in a conditioning pen.
One of the best breeds to have for a beginner right now. Forgot the name of them. Help me out.

Jerked my leg right out from under me!!

'Bout fell down...

I remember New Ham shire Reds. Every buddy has them don't they?

No this was one of my favorite colored birds I have seen in many years. Stunning color. His sons maybe ten of them look just like him.

Well off to the TV to watch the Alabama Crimson Tide. Should be a very good game.

Nope...it's not dead.....everyone is just busy watching college football or cleaning coops and taking pictures.....at least that is what I was doing all day....mostly cleaning but I did get a few pictures taken. Here is a picture of the New Hampshires Reds (yes, I caught that in your post...another test?.......) that I got from Kathy this spring. They make a beautiful sight against the green of the yard. I hope my cockerel (all the way in the back against the fence) turns out as nice as Matt 1616s.........

We went to a local ag fair today.. Lots of dairy cattle and poultry! Fun to introduce friends to the world of poultry. Of course the roosters were the most captivating with their very colorful feathering. One rooster felt the need to scratch vigorously in the shavings covering my son's soccer coach. I barely kept a straight face as he brushed off the offensive shavings with indignant swipes. He did continue to ask a few questions. And his wife was interested in a pen of doves. Good turnout of ducks , geese and 2 turkeys, too.

One of the turkeys baffled me. It was labeled bourbon red yet the feather color was a pale buff yellow, much paler than my BR birds at the same age. I think the exhibitor was mistaken about the breed. No disrespect of the judge intended here; I'm totally in awe of all that a judge must memorize. No wonder it is wise to carry a copy of the SOP! The judge changed the breed of several of the entries ( this was 4H) and mostly it was buff cochins mislabled as orpingtons. A delight to see clean shiny birds. And every cage was full.
