I haven't used fermented feed to grow birds, but I use it as a treat for them. they love it and there is a lot of research that says it's great for all birds.

I'm on my 3rd set of roosters growing out here this summer. Upon the advice of a long time chicken man I keep feeding a 20% complete grower and supplement with a 60/40% corn and oats mixture (both are rolled or cracked) this is done around 16 weeks and I have butchered at 20, the key is to cage the birds or at least cut their run to a very small area. So far the birds (Marans) have dressed at 5lbs + and have a touch of yellow showing in the fat (not much fat on them, but enough for good stock)

Very interesing. Just finished thru "Best time to market poultry".
Interesting, Lamon agrees with fine ground Oats (groats too); and the use of milk.
Take a look at Page 165. there's a wonderfu lmeasured diagram of a battery of fattening cages. The best I have ever seen. To get a copy of this for yourself, right click on the pic and highlight it. Right click with the mouse and choose "save as". Save the pic to your computer and the print it out from the copy on your computer. I think, for me, I will have Hubby Bob build mine with 2 cages on each level as in the 2nd and 3rd levels. That way I can do either 8 or 16 birds (2 per cage) in each battery.

they posted a link above to an equine shampoo list...if you click on white magic shampoo it takes you to the product and price, i bet a little goes a real long way with poultry as it was designed for horses....I bookmarked that one for future reference..some of the greatest tips for show people in here.

Be willing to bet that the milk those guys used to fatten their birds on is raw, unpasteurized milk. Pasteurized might give them problems.

It does that now and then and someone has to kick the can down the road. I get blamed some times by some of my Show people who come to this web site that I use tricky tactics to get you folks to respond. You got to do something some times. This tread is a educational treat to take people who are feed store chicken collectors and to try to turn them into Preservationist. Only one in 300 will stick and do it. The rest will revert back to getting the mutts from the feed store. Thats ok. Not every one can do this. I am now into Gardening and preservation of plants. My wife has me working like a slave. I just got a big pick up load of Compost dirt from the land fill. Putting it out and then getting ready to plant her plants for her.

Now I got to go out and wash some white chickens. Its called Laundering your chickens. I should put them into the Washing machine but they dont know how to swim. I am making a pen above the ground that has wire on the bottom and plastic all around the sides and ends a solar dryer and then I got to was chickens for three days befor a show in seven days.

Has anyone seen Bobby's Rhode Island Red male that he won at Lucas ville Ohio last weekend? Boy he is a killer.
