Hi all you Heritage breeders

I have just a small flock of silver pencilled Plymouth Rocks. Most of the pullets and roos were hatched this May, some later than that. Here are a few pictures taken this lovely Fall day on Prince Edward Island, in eastern Canada. I am looking for a Canadian sppr rooster that doesn't have split wings. If you know of any, please let me know where they can be found.

Rooster Cogburn and 5 of his ladies. They are too young to lay eggs yet. But I'm hoping they start later this month.

Rooster Cogburn, from 2011 hatch, the only mature roo that I have right now. He has five hens following him today; there are few younger ones that prefer to stay away from him.

A pen of 2012 roos that I am fattening to eat. They may be ready next month.

A cool October morning. The leaves are falling.

The beautiful silver pencilling is now showing on their feathers.

Dallas Show: American class champion with a New Hampshire cockerel.

Personally, I dislike that tail and tail break. But, I am no judge.

I agree about the tail, but he is in superb condition.......and that COLOR!

I think it might just be that it is leaning forward and I notice that these NH's have an unnatural tail flair when excited. I don't see an actual angle at the base of the tail.

Very nice birds!

I was at the Dallas show, my first poultry show experience! He was one of the impressive ones. I don't know anything about NH's except that they have beautiful colors... but he was very big, shiny, and in much better condition than the majority of birds there. I took a pic of him, too. Maybe you can see the tail angle differently? (please excuse the flash, my camera is special)

One of my seven month old Columbian Plymouth Rocks.
Ron

Looking good!! I have about a dozen of her "sisters" here that look very much the same. Looks like her tail has a bit more lift than most of what I have. Next season I have to focus more on the tails of both the males and females, and I'm going to put some pressure on color. Be sure to watch her offspring as we need to get the heads to be "clean white". I have several with hackles extending all the way to the top of the head like this one

BTW - rifle season opened here this weekend. Saw 6 bucks (a HUGE 6pt, a 7pt, two 8pts and 2 "who knows", but one was huge and came out right at dark!!) and about 5 does. Taking a LONG weekend next weekend....

Quote: So far I have found a member here on BYC (Jamn) who has been hatching the Cockoo Maline (Mechels in the UK). On a thread back in May, an email for another member was given as a contact for a source here in the States. I'm going to contact the person to see if she is still breeding the birds.

I have several varieties of Wyandottes and several varieties of the LF Cochins and have loads of room here on the farm to set up a breeding area for another breed.

Much improved tail! Walt was right. He was down in front on Kathy's photo. Gorgeous bird!
