Ugh.

So, we live in Dallas, Texas... THE CITY....and last night we had a bobcat attack....

Yesterday my neighbor had asked me to set a trap in our back yard to catch a feral cat that has been attacking her cats. I was happy to do it because that crusty cat has been stalking our ducks. I woke up at 230 am to the most distressed quacking and assumed we had either caught the mangy cat...or a raccoon. I ran outside and the trap was empty..but a very large bobcat was stalking around the coop eyeing my ducks!

I somehow got it to leave and my husband thought I was a complete liar! Thirty minutes later he returned...still trying to get at our ducks! He is not afraid of us, and continued to stalk back and forth with all the lights on and us standing in the door way. Every time we shoo'd him off he would return!

I have wildlife department coming to help us out.. but i was wondering if anyone else has had any luck with deterring a bobcat from eating your ducks!!!

OH... and the ducks are all safe and sound... the cat really tried to get through the chicken wire though!

holy smokes! that would beyond to much! thankfully you are secured well . We have all sorts of stuff here, including mountain lions but for the most part they stick to the woods mind you my ducks are all locked up at night, i don't even trust pens, we have bears too...

What did the wildlife department say? is this typical?

the wildlife department is coming this afternoon.. they did tell us that bobcats tend to return to the same places. There will be a few traps set out tonight in hopes of catching him....but then I am not sure what we will do with him!

Richard, our Indian Runner was quite the alarm system last night. I could hear him all the way in our back bedroom!

Hopefully you catch him! do they not advise on what you do with it afterwards? i mean you hardly let it loose again in the area lol

Glad you had an alarm! i shudder at the possible damage!

Wow. I am glad we don't have bobcats here. There are some predators that would be really tough to keep out--bobcats, bears, people with crowbars. I hope you catch the bobcat tonight!!

If you know how to handle a gun, shoot it. That's what I would do. (Then again, not entirely sure discharging a firearm in the city limits is legal? I live in the boonies so we can shoot anything.) The wildlife folks should be able to help you though. Good luck! Here kitty kitty.......

we pulled out our gun...but hesitated to shoot it because i don't know all the rules about guns in the city... So we just kept a watchful eye and ear out for our guys. It was a scary night!

Hmm, that is a tough decision. If it were ME, I would have taken aim. Find out the laws regarding that. I can only imagine how scary it was. You need to find out what to do once it is trapped. I am sure the wildlife folks will come and haul it off and probably re-home it in a more appropriate area.
