Body Hatching

So what will you do if the chick hatches while you're out and about? And what will happen to the chick after hatching? Is it going to be hand raised as a pet?

This whole concept is so intriguing!

I hope i manage to hatch them too.

I don't think my showers take longer than 30 minutes. The eggs never go cold while they are waiting for me. Other than that they are with me 24/7. I think you misunderstood, I'm not leaving them to go and sleep.

Maybe my clothes soak up some of the oils? I'm not sure, my skin is quite dry, but i anticipated sweat might be an issue.

When they hatch out, the feathers need to dry before they can maintain self heat. After that i believe they are mostly ok. Even so i will set something up for them. From memory they are very active after they dry out. I could always wrap a hot water bottle up in a towel if he gets 'Funny' again, but he's less likeley to do that with live chicks than with eggs.
Chicks also need marbles in thier drinking dish as they tend to drown themselves. Don't worry. I've done my research.

Also not my first time hatching. Just my first time hatching this way. I have also seen alot of death in my lifetime. I'm used to it. But thankyou for your concerns.

I will hand raise the chick for a while, Try and make it a bit more tame, but most likeley it will go back to my mothers aivery with the other quails.

If it hatches while i'm out there isn't much i really can do. I'll just have to let it happen and try and get home as quickly as possible. I do plan to move it into my bator when it's due to hatch though to avoid this. You get a bit of warning. Sometimes.

But you said this earlier:
Then i usually rest them in my hand under my neck or put them in a small box and sleep with this on my chest.
If you sleep with them on your chest in the box you must be sleeping more than 30 minutes right?

That is not right. The young chicks need a heat source such as a lamp. If you watch a chick with its mother it will spend some time running and eating, but every so often go back under the mother, and the mothers will sit on it and warm it up.
Chicks can not regulate their own body temperature. You would have to keep changing the hot water bottle many times in the day and night - also they need the correct temperature - the water bottle might be too hot or not hot enough.
Please look over some posts on here about brooding quail chicks. There is great information.

I know and I have thankyou! However you can surely appreciate that some data on here might conflict on occasion.

When i held it under my neck it was in my hand not in the box.The SMALL box is always under the covers with me. It's A DOWN QUILT. Very hot in summer! I have checked the temperature of the INSIDE of the box. It is fine. My eggs are developing just fine!

As i have said previously. This is not my first hatch and i will set something up that they can stay warm in. The last time i did a hatch the weather was much colder, so i wasn't sure if it still applied.

Also in regard to a hot water bottle. I think I'm capable of knowing how hot is too hot and how cold is too cold. I own a thermometer. lol. But i really don't think i will have to resort to that. (using a hot water bottle, not checking the temperature)

Please have a little respect for another persons ability to succeed. You might jinx it!

I'm not sure, my quails are like 6 weeks old and they haven't started laying yet. Nor the egg supplier has any eggs due to the rainy colder weather this week.

I hope I can get em at the very least next week though....I badly want to join in. It can save a lot on the electricity if this succeeds :D

I hope so too.
