Bold Coyotes

Are you sure they are 100% coyote? They maybe coyote dog mix. When I lived in Illinois (in the middle of nowhere) we had a huge problem with coyote dog mixes. Our area was a favorite dumping ground for unwanted dogs by the folks in "the city". They were absolutely more bold then a pure coyote. I actually was treed by coyote kerrs for over 2 hours once. A couple days later they killed over 75 sheep and attacked three horses that had to be destroyed because their wounds were so bad. We finally had an old fashion (me and several neighbors along with conservation agent) pose hunt. The kerrs were still a problem the day I moved.

Coyotes and bobcats get bolder this time of year because the winter is hard on them too. Some times they get bad in the late spring when their weening pups. Some of the ones around here will try to take down calves. Coyotes are usually our friends because of all the rats they kill but you cant put up with the ones that kill livestock. If im after a problem animal I use traps so I can target the individual or indivuals that are killing live stock.

Ok got a new gun today a Ruger 10-22 and some Velocitor 40 grain hollow point long gun ammo. And of course we got a economy box of regular .22 ammo for target practice. I shot the gun already and it feels good, nice weight to it without being too heavy.

I'll be doing some target practice tomorrow and then by Thursday and Friday I'll be setting up to bring the coyotes in.

Be very careful shooting a rifle. A round can ricochet and carry for a half mile or more. A shotgun with a choke and using 00 buckshot might work better and be safer too.

I wouldn't have gone with a .22, personally...

A larger caliber rifle or a shotgun would do a better job, but even with the .22, if your shot placement (and your luck) is good, he will probably still go down or at least go away...

Edit: Sorry, didn't see the part about your injury, maybe the Ruger is your best bet. Practice a little with it and good shot placement might make up for the weakish caliber. .22 can kill just fine, but it's just not a sure thing.

we got some good ammo the Velocitor 40 grain hollow point long gun bullets. Everyone that we talked to said they were very good for small game and beefs up the .22 power.

Seeing as how you have a semi-auto, zap him two or three times in the chest/side (vitals) and that should be enough to ruin his evening.
