Plus now there are 17 hens
My sister inlaw did this when she was a kid...she was just a tiny thing and her part of the chores was to collect the eggs. The rooster liked to attack her when she went in to collect so she complained to her dad, who in turn wasn't thinking and said take care of it. She did...she went in with a board in hand to collect eggs and when the rooster came at her she was ready...she accidentally knocked his head right off. She then picked up the rooster and brought it to her dad and said I took care of it dropped the rooster at his feet and went back to collect the eggs. This is what confuses me when I see people post about chickens attacking them. Maybe it is just me, but if a chicken jumped at me, even if it were a rooster coming at me with spurs, I guarantee my automatic reaction would be to smack the chicken over the fence like I was hitting a home run. Might not be the best reaction due to possible injury (to human and chicken), but it would be my automatic reaction... Seems others are a lot more timid in their reactions?
I have 13 egg laying hens. They are being incredibly aggressive, with humans and with each other (biting, not pecking, the. Faces of my father and I, and flying up to bite us for we are in there). I was wondering if there was anything you guys knew that would help. I gave them a rolling chicken toy from Kaytee. I was wondering if there was anything else. I am renovating the chicken coop this summer so I was just wondering. Any advice would be appreciated.
