Bored Chickens make a not so fun time

3x2 and 5x4 sounds like a prefab coop and run. If you have 13 chickens in that space, you're lucky they aren't killing each other. I've had 13 chickens in my 10x24 pen and felt like it should have been twice as big...

Yup, if those dimensions are correct then that's the problem, and I'm also surprised they aren't killing each other. Standard room for standard size (not bantam) chickens is 4 sq ft per chicken inside the house/coop, and 10 sq ft per chicken inside the run. With your 3x2 coop, you technically can fit 1.5 chickens. That's one and a half. If you've got 13, then you're at almost 10 times the limit. The 5x4 run is 20 sq ft, so that would fit 2 chickens. And those are minimum numbers.

Now if this is a temporary fix because of flooding and just what you had to do, then that's a whole other story. Sometimes you just gotta do the best you can with what you have. But if this is their permanent living situation, 13 chickens are never going to work in that small of a space. Never trust the numbers on a prefab chicken coop, because they go by battery chicken house standards and are not reasonable at all.

I'm sorry, I'm not understanding this I don't think. You've got 17 chickens in a coop that has a floor 3 feet x 2 feet? Are you sure about your measurements?

That is just the inside. The outside is like 6, 3 or so

Are you talking about feet or meters?

Sounds like you may need to think about a new coop too, if that is feet (guessing from your user name your a Wiccan who lives in one of the Kansas Cities)

We seriously need photos (with a measuring tape). Even if the "outside" is 6x3? that's barely more than a sq ft per chicken. That's factory farm sizing.
