Bored Chickens make a not so fun time

Can you safely let them free range until the new coop is done? They could sleep in the coop and their run when it’s bed time.
This is truly a very bad situation for them.
Or as someone has suggested rehome or foster until you have adequate space.
I’m sure you will do the right thing since you are an animal advocate.

On the inside it is about 3 x 2’. But there are lots of stands above ground level and rafters and things on different levels that they can jump up and sit on. And the outside it’s about 5 x 4’.
Wow,that is way to small for that many birds.I believe it should be 2 sq ft. Inside coop per bird and 8 sq ft. Per bird outside.

I cannot let them free range due to vultures, owls, dogs, coyotes, et cedra. But those were the same plan. One paper was just the inside. I did make a new plan though, just to give my father some extra options to choose from

I have a 2 year old rooster that suddenly decided to start attacking me. I never let my chicks set on me or jump on me. Even as chicks. I have spur marks on my arm and beak marks. I have trimmed and filed his beak and spurs but he still leaves marks.
And elderly woman told me to carry a spray bottle of plain water, set on stream, and spray him every time he comes after me. So I'm going to try that.
Mine is in an indoor pen that is 5'x 5' x 6' tall with an outdoor run of 10' x 20 and it's only him and his hen.

I think I, may start the building early, probably in about a week or so (because I don't live there full time). I have been giving them toys to lighten up the mood a little though

I'm afraid how you raise them doesn't matter. I have coddled some roosters who were sweathearts, and ignored some who turned out to be aggressive.
I think it has to do more with genetics.

It would still be horrendously small, even if meters. If you can't provide your hens with adequate and healthy space, then you need to give some away - fast - or eat some. Like all animals, chickens have lots of emotions, they feel pain and anxiety. They are so much more than egg producers. I too am sorry to sound harsh, but I just don't understand how you could think this situation is okay.

A new run and coop sound like great ideas. This site has tons of information about design, location, predator proofing, materials - you name it.
