BOSS..how much how often? and benefits?

I've got 40+ birds and toss them a couple of cups in the evening so they will stay away from the outside door. For the most part I use it as a bribe when I want them to stay out from underfoot when I'm working in the coop. BTW, whenever I let them out to free range I have a few birds that half run/half fly to the area under the birdfeeder where I feed unshelled sunflower seed so they can get anything the birds kicked out.
