I wouldn't because of the price. Otherwise it wouldn't bother me. I can see some do not look purebred by AKC standards. That doesn't bother me either, but put those together and I don't think I would. If they were more affordable I might.

I've bought dogs from all sorts of folks. Just depends what a person is looking for. Not all BYB dogs are poor quality, and not all well bred are great quality in my experiences.
That makes sense and good to know! Thank you! I keep forgetting about the price tag lol

Well bred does mean good quality however, or I'd it's an off chance, a great safety net

That’s what I figured. Thanks. It’s just hard cause it seems like there’s NO Boston breeders around. Or Boxers. And the two on the breed club website haven’t updated their site in years 😭😭😭😭
Both breeds used to be more popular but now they are being replaced by bulldogs and poodle mixes. Not always a bad thing. There are breeders out there. Just need to look longer or drive farther to find them.

You don't get any sympathy from me. At least you have a breed club:p. You just have to look a little longer, drive a little farther

Thanks! That’s a good point. I might have to expand my search lol

I've gotten 2 show quality bred Australian shepherds and they have had health problems. Well bred can mean different things to different people. We always use that term, but it isn't really definable. There can people breeding their dogs that are doing the right things but they are considered BYB's by standards. Lots of show breeding can be shady too. I guess the terminology gets me.

When we bought our border collie we bought from a man who bred for the working qualities. I would consider that a good breeder even though there was no testing at that time. He only bred occasionally, but he knew his breed.

I don't mind BYB if they know what they are doing. Most of mine came from BYB. Some worked their dogs like the coonhounds and others didn't.

So maybe I don't understand what people think a good breeder looks like. Papers and titles? Testing? Working qualities?
