Bought some peachicks today!

Anyone's guesses are as good as mine but I do know that the White colored one is a Black Shoulder (has tan colored wing feathers)
I made sure to not get any Whites because I see nothing special in them..

I've never been as impressed with the whites either... Always sort of reasoned that the point of getting a peacock (of all birds) is for the colors! But, I can certainly see how they are generally viewed as striking.

I didn't really care for the whites either until I saw a full grown male in person, have to say they look much better in person than in the pics...glad u got what u wanted :)

Ding Ding Ding! We have a winner here! I couldn't agree more! Also with the peach, cameo, and other brown colored birds that are SUPER expensive, I think they all look the same, Brown. Then there's the Spaulding's which are just mutts, correct? A mix between 2 different breeds?

Nathhowe - When I went to go get the peachicks, I saw the breeders White's and I just wasn't impressed.. A white bird is just white to me.. But I do LOVE pied and White eyed birds though!

I don't get cameo, but I didn't get purple either until I saw one in person. The iridescence in the purple (which had always looked just like the blues in pictures, to me) makes it a completely different bird. So, since I haven't seen a cameo or a peach in person, I won't judge; but the pics always make them look like a "flat" color rather than a shiny color. I've seen a bronze train before (someone at a swap had harvested the entire train at once) and I can see how those birds, despite looking "brown" in pictures, would be absolutely gorgeous in real life; like a moving bronze statue.

On the spaldings, yes and no. They're technically a hybrid, not a mutt because they are not different breeds, they are cross species (like a lion/tiger mix). They're actually a really unique hybrid, because they are fertile and the vast majority of hybrids are NOT. I think the main reason behind the original hybrid mix was to create a bird that had a high % phenotype for the java (meaning they LOOK a lot like a Java) but with enough % genotype india blue to be hardier in American winters. Hybridization is also the only way to get the genetic mutations (like pied) into the java birds, since NONE of the color or pattern mutations have so far mutated in the java species. So, I would say no, not mutts; genetic experiments that kinda rock.

I've seen whites in person as well, and they are very "pure" looking; I wouldn't mind having a trio that I've hand raised around to rent out to people for wedding photos... but I don't see the allure for their look just around. I also think they have weird looking faces. I agree though- I LOVE the pied birds, and I think that's because a little bit of white makes the colors stand out even brighter.

I agree, pied birds are magnificent. On the males, the white against the iridescent blue is stunning. The white one that I saw a few weeks ago made me really want to get white. I guess it was the white against the green background of the grass that had me wanting them but it sure was an awesome looking bird!

The first ones (whites) I ever saw were in high school, in a courtyard of the school. They netted the top of the courtyard and let them live there. It was so surreal.

I did not think i would like white either but the breeder gave me one when i bought my first chicks from them and i fell in love with her, she made it easer to see the group at the tree lines when they were in the pastures but she was also camouflaged when in the woods because of the shadows and suns rays coming threw the trees.
I purchased 3 more whites the next season and a cameo, now i am going to get more cameos this year if any hatch out for them.
