Brahma Breeders thread

In south central WI and looking to start a flock of a dozen for the girls and I to enjoy.
I am lost as to where to get quality chicks.

Any advice is welcome. Raised chickens in the past - just new to this breed.

I am also in South central WI!

I have 3 week old brahma chicks- they are hatchery stock, but might be willing to part with a couple. I have no idea on gender yet though.

When do Brahmas start to show their gender- in looks or behavior?

With my birds, I feel pretty confident that I can pick out some obvious males at a few days old. They will have a more upright stance, have heavier legs/feet, often wider skull. The females have a more refined look and have a more horizontal stance. Like anything there will be some that seem to fall somewhere in the middle.

As they get a little older and start to feather out, the females almost always develop feathers more evenly. The males will usually lag behind with bare shoulders and lacking tail feathers well behind the females, for a while. Once they get past that stage, it can be harder to tell again for a while.
