Okay, so this is the second chick I've had hatch since yesterday. First one I found with a bald, bloody head...tried to take care of it and it died...

This time I go out and find the chick in the corner of the nest box, and this one has an exposed ear! Here's pictures...

Put it in the brooder, one 60 watt bulb on one end, one red heat lamp hanging above other end. She has a 'bobblehead' and can't really get up on her feet. She tries to move though and can sit up a bit. Her eyes are fine, just squeezed shut most of the time. She cheeps a bit. She opens and closes her beak, and sometimes I hear a little click click.

Is her throat supposed to be that big?

What can I do for her? I put some triple antibiotic around the area, but not directly.

sorry, those are the best pictures. I had some where she was sitting up a bit more, but she would bobble her head and make it blurry.

oh, and some of my chickens have lice, but I didn't notice my broody hen having any problem. Is my hen to blame? are the lice to blame? bacteria? not warm enough?

Also, not sure if this is and EE or a Buff Brahma...Looks a lot bigger than my other Brahma chick that died, and I haven't been able to look and see what egg shells are lying around.

Sorry to hear about the other chick. Id have to recomend the same thing from the other post. Although if its the ear or head again there might be permanent damage

If there isnt any improvement I sorry but culling would probably be best

. Also if you have another broody it will probably be better to put the rest of the eggs under any other broody. just not the one hurting chicks.

Are you "force" feeding it?

By the way to "force" water it is easier to pick up dunk and then set down.

About the lice have you checked the vent and under the wing?
If you find and try dusting them.

good luck.

My dad is checking the hen, and i think he's moving the eggs to another broody hen who just decided to be broody yesterday. Will this hen be okay with the hatching eggs so soon?

Is this an EE or a Brahma? I'm thinking EE, but I haven't seen any chicks before besides the other one of mine that was for sure a Brahma.

Here's some new pictures.
