I have a hen that has an ever bigger head with a nice brow. I really need some good pictures, but I just can't seem to capture them right. They all look so squatty and icky in pictures, I have yet to find out how to show their beauty off.

To Roost or not to Roost your brahma's...

I have read so many books that tell you roosting is important to chickens and in the past we have always let our chickens roost. The breeder we are getting our brahma's from says not to let the roost at all or it causes a crooked keel and they will be DQ'd in the shows. Yet, I see lots of breeders websites with their brahma's roosting. So confusing...

What is everyone's general concensus on this??

I prefer to have my birds roost. It builds breast muscle and I'm not sure if it's just me, keeps the wing "tighter". When I had Brahmas, the birds that roosted seemed to have a better overall form than those that did not. I did not make the roosts very high though because when the birds hopped off the roost in the morning, a slipped tendon or broken leg was not something I wanted to wake up to.

My Hatchery birds roosted, but these show birds wont.

I checked fertility on the eggs I have been incubating (Partridge x Pyle Brahmas) and they are developing just perfectly. Chicks should be here in a few weeks. I also have about 10 Partridge Brahma eggs ready to hit the incubator soon. Hatching season is just around the corner.

I have a question or two, I am considering getting a breeding trio of brahmas but have come across several sites that state they are hard to breed, have low fertility, and after the first breeding year their fertility drops even more drastically. Is any of this true?

The most simple answer is that all of the above is false. If you get real heavy feathered fowl you might need to trim around the vent or pull a few feathers. Some years I have raised over 1000 Brahma in large and Bantam. I say if you like the Brahma go for them. Don
