I hope mine grows up to be like him! I love my brahmas, but enjoy crossing colours even more... so I have 2 pens now: one pen has a gold/black patridge rooster with two blue hens, and the other pen has the blue rooster with a blue partridge hen. May well swap the girls over between pens next year for a month to get a differrent genetic line for crossing chicks back the year after.
As I only have the blue male and blue partridge pullet I need more girls for him to make it feasible to keep them together. I will not be able to hatch as many at once if I only have one hen, and by the time I can fill the incubator, the oldest eggs will be too old. I try not to stagger hatches as I hatch for other people too. I must try and find at least one more pullet for him.
Edited to add: I thought Red Pyle was red on white? So does that make it a blue/red splash? On your pic of the young boys together: that is exactly the male colouring I got from blue hen x gold rooster. Also, I got pure blacks from that crossing of colours too, as well as pure blue, well I say pure, it was single laced with black. The last pic: I sold a couple of what I thought were blue hens as 10 weeks old, and I am pretty sure they will be displaying the same colouring as they fill out.
As I have had only light brahmas a long time ago,I now have both light(2-roos & 3-hens) and dark(5-roos & 2-hens) brahmas. I hatched them out in April so they are a little over 16 wks old. I was thinking of culling the roosters down to only 1 and don't know which one to keep. They are all becoming very large and very handsome looking. My question is. if I decide to keep a dark roo, what would be the outcome from a light hen and if I keep a light roo, what would be the outcome of a dark hen? I would really like to keep one of each but I would like to get some expert advice on my question first. Any feedback would be appreciated.
