Brahma Thread

Hi - thought I'd post a few pictures of my 13 week old brahma flock. They are hatchery birds, as I'm not into breeding or showing, but I fell in love with this breed from my first two dark brahmas in my mixed flock (now 15 months). I originally had 3 buffs and 3 lights, but one of the buffs randomly and suddenly keeled over dead - not a mark on her, and one of the lights turned out to be a cockerel. With a group this small, there's only room for one boy and Blackberry was the chosen one. Now, since I'm down 2, I'm really thinking of merging my 2 darks into this group, in a couple of months when these guys get larger. I'm going to have to research that, though, as I've never had to change a flock dynamic before.

Here are my Fruits:

Peach walking off and Cherry in front:

What beauties! I am partial to the Buffs.... but that is just me. I had to add and subtract a few hens/rooster and it takes a bit of time but is not such a big deal. If you roo gets too big for his britches then separate him and let the hens get used to eachother and then reintroduce the roo via segration box and supervised introductions for a week or so. When they all seem like a "flock" then introduce the roo at night when everyone is tucked in.
He will have lost the head peg spot, but that is never a bad thing :)
