[Vickis Girls]

Alright, thankyou Big Medicine. Up until he was five months old he had a proper comb. I don't know what happened. Vickis Girls~ No they are not peg legs because of how a chickens legs bend differently. Half way up the leg on the left, and right below the spur on the other. He lives with the chickens and stays happy. Tim63~ Hmmph

I'm glad to know he's happy and can get around. If he wasn't happy then he probably wouldn't eat, at least that's what most animals and people do. I understand you keeping this friend around. I don't eat my pets either.

I had to rearrange my girlfriend's thinking on this subject. She has one "pet" rooster and that's all she's ever gonna have. I mean what's the point of having birds that just get old and die?.....I love me some fresh chicken-n-dumplings. Once I ate my first bird from my own flock I can't stand store bought chicken anymore.

Hey BigMedicine, I've been working on a dark/red project for almost 3 years now and a few days ago the neighbors dog got my only girl out of the group. She was a 3rd generation, started with a Light brahma roo and a RIR, then those went on light hens, and then to light once more. She was all red with the black neck tie and tail. My question: Is there anyway to get red into them without having to work it for 3 more years before I get my desired color? I have one of her chicks that finally came out with the dark brahma pattern with red instead of the white. I'll get pics when I get home if that helps!

Just go with your gut post many photos and have fun this is really a fun list some think they know it all and others actually do know a lot but they are Quiet ones like TIM , DAk and a Few others .
I had a guy tell me to put molly in a stew pot ... she is in my egg pen well was she laid double yolks and doc said she wore her self out RIP baby girl .

A red based dark Brahma pattern sounds like the partridge variety that some folks are working on. Best bet might be to see if you can hook up with one of them, get some stock.

Some people just enjoy owning chickens, because it makes them happy, gives them a hobby, and keeps them busy.

64 lights hatched so far, 21 buffs. Actually hatched 70 lights...lost six. Should be able to raise one or two good showbirds. How is everyone else's hatch doing?

I have 8 brahmas hatched so far. Not quite where I would like to be but it's a start. I have ten more hatching Friday.

I need to stop hatching and start culling. I gave away all but my best four breeder light females. I hate not to set their eggs as they should produce the best offspring. There are several Buff eggs developing in the Sportsman. Might just set this week's eggs and stop. I kind of under hatched last year and regreted it when show season came around and people were constantly calling for birds.
