Woo, and my DH complains when we have to drive 30 minutes for my chickens! Lol.
Congrats on your new brahma flock! You won't be disappointed!
I'm adding to mine today, too, in picking up a buff bantam trio later. Yay!

5 hours one way.. but it was well worth it. I couldn't ship 17 largefowl chickens for a $100 ..

I enjoy meeting other fanciers and see how they keep their show chickens..

Just curious are you getting them from a guy over in north manchester, indiana. Becuase I just got 5 OEGBs from him! He had a trio I wanted to get they were so pretty.

Go get them! ;) OEGBs are great, too. I happily would have gone to Indy but DH would slaughter me for going so far LOL. This was someone selling out of some bantams in Chillicothe, OH. Beautiful birds! Going to try to post pics tomorrow to see how the trained eyes here consider their type.

Any chance that you experienced Brahma owners could help me sex Fluffasaurus? She's about 13 weeks old, and showed red in her face much earlier than her sister and was also much less friendly. They both feathered out at the same time though, so I'm wondering if it wasn't just the heat that was affecting her more than Foofasaurus. Here's a couple of pics that I took with my phone, if you need better ones I'll dig out the real camera. I can't put up any pics comparing her to her nestmate because I had to surrender her to the vet after an accident involving a fence and a dog. I live in town so crowing early in the morning it out, although there's so many barking dogs during the day that if it was at a decent hour I'd take the risk with keeping a roo as long as it's friendly.

Also I wouldn't mind a critique on Fluffasaurus, I'm extremely impressed with Light Brahmas especially with how insanely friendly Foof was (she would pester me to pick her up so she could snuggle with me, chirring all the while. She's even run away from food to come see me! While Fluff isn't nearly as gregarious as Foof, she still will hang out near me, and never pecks me.)

Pullet. As far as critique goes, very high tail, narrow body, no chest. Hatchery stock. Not close to the standard at all really.

All my chicks are hatchery stock so I suppose none of mine will be either. Now; what are the chances of getting a somewhat good bird from hatchery? And if I were to breed a quality one (not that I have one) with this hatchery stock. How much improvement should I expect?

Interesting! Her "sister" had a much lower set tail so I'm guessing was closer to standard. Well it's a good thing I won't be breeding her in any case, and thanks for the response.

About .001%. If you want high quality exhibition birds, you need to start out with good birds from a good line. Hatchery birds are fine for backyard birds. Show birds are a different animal.
