Vulture hocks aside, honestly their head and type looks closer to old english than Brahma. And that is a pretty big chasm.

I know John, broodiness is a good thing in my eyes. But I have known many also who want to eliminate that trait altogether from their flocks, which I think is so sad. Heritage breeds are supposed to be broody. If you want hens only for money makers for an egg or meat operation, then yes, you may as well buy commercial strain chicks from some big hatchery & factory farm them.
But because my focus is on breed preservation, animal welfare & sustainable farming, everything I do raise here on my farm is naturally grown, be it plant or animal. It is all a matter of priority I suppose... and these forums are a good way to spark interest in heritage breeds and the discussions are great way educate those new to the poultry world AND those who have been at it for years. I know I am always learning new things. I think we just need to remember not to compare "apples" to "oranges" when we get to chatting & keep things 'in context'. :)

Thanks Tim, I am a wee bit slow out the starting gate, my bad. Since Tony's death I am needing to get get my buns back in the saddle & my hand on reins again for the Gold breeders group. I am thinking this forum is closer to the gate than even the Scanner or the Brahma web site. So any breeders working on Gold or Partridge, I am anxious to hear from all y'all!!!
Dee ...best way is email for me: [email protected] with GOLD or PARTRIDGE BRAHMA in subject line. Thanks!!

So that I have a better understanding of what I'm looking for, can I please get a critique on this pullet? She's 5 months old. I'm thinking that her tail is set a bit low and her head is possibly too narrow. Her chest seems to be filling out slowly. Thanks!
