I'll add a couple pictures of my Gold Brahma. I hoped to work on these but the project took a hit from predation. I may hatch out as many chicks as I can from the remaining trio and see what I get. They're only 8 months old at this time.

They don't strike me as real typey when I look at them. What do you guys think?
Dang predators. They always pick on the expensive or hard to replace birds.

Not sure if that is a typo and you got a hatcher, or you actually got a hatchet. Either way, both are usefull pieces of equipment, and when judicially applied with the help of your SOP, will improve your breeding program.
I was wondering the same thing, I could see a use for both.

Yep, a HATCHET is THE most valuable tool in improving your line.
We send ours to freezer camp or straight to the oven. Except chicks with obvious defects, they don't make it that far.

Oh no I fully meant what I typed. I wanted a new one as the old one was dull and had been left outside a few too many times.

Would you guys mind posting in order from greatest importance to the least importance the top five things to cull for first. That's my biggest issue with culling them is that I don't what qualities out way the others. Like I know that a nice comb would be less important than a nice wide head but what else. I'm talking about type for now.

Not sure about top five. Just concentrate on WIDE. Wide head, wide back, wide(well spread) tail, wide feathers. I especially like wide tail mains. One draw back to the big birds is it takes them so long to mature. You really need to wait at least a year to cull for type. I would not use sparrow headed narrow birds. I am sure you know type is paramount......type makes the breed, color the variety. Get type set first and then you can worry about minor color issues. From the pictures you have posted, your Lights look very good. Not sure this helps much?

As they mature, do the backs widen? Two of my pullets look promising and so does one cockerel. One of the pullets is now wider in front than rear. They are currently 7 months old and are LF. I never worried about butt width until I got these birds! LOL
