Brahma Thread

Just for clarity. Dark Brahmas are of the "silver penciled" variety. Light Brahmas are of the "columbian" variety, and Buff Brahmas are of the "buff columbian" variety. It is a bit confusing as some breeds use the actual variety(color pattern) name to identify varieties within the breed. Of further interest might be the fact that the ABA in addition to the 3 varieties named above, also recognize 'Black", and "White". Blacks are seldom seen at shows. I have never seen a white shown or anywhere else for that matter. My Son does have high quality white cornish should I EVER get around to pursuing a " White Bantam Brahma".

Gary, I printed your directions and have them safely tucked in my standard for future reference.

My first generation try at a "white" Brahma. She's not completely white, though, there's a bit of blue here and there. Also, legs are pink, not yellow.

I had some splash phase blue columbian hens (pullets in this photo) that showed just a speck fo blue in a tail feather, a few where very hard to tell they were not white, to the eye anyway.

The only similarity is the color pattern...silver pencilled. Brahma type and plymouth rock type are vastly different. Type makes the breed, color the variety.

The only basic difference between the two, the way I understand it, is the presence, or absence, of dominant white.

I believe I would continue with the better typed birds and inject a bit of the buff laced into the breeding pen to keep that color going as well. Hopefully improving their type.

yes thats my plan, only problem right now is I have 2 hens both gorgeous gold laced and 1 gold laced roo, and 2 buff laced roos, the GL is in charge and I don't think he lets the Buff laced near the hens, waiting to hatch my first eggs to see how it goes, I also have more eggs coming in the summer, GLB, BLB and SLB

Those look like Brahmas are they or is this a cross ? I do not see the feathering on the feet like my brahmas but its kinda upsetting why would they have 2 simalar looks ?

Yes SPR I have these and they are wonderful birds
