I CROSSED A LIGHT BRAHMA BANTAM HEN WITH A BUFF BRAHMA BANTAM ROOSTER LAST SPRING. I HATCHED 10 OUT OF THAT CROSS. 8 WERE PULLETS ALL BEAUTIFUL BUFFS. THE 2 COCKERELS ARE LIGHT BRAHMA WITH A SLIGHT BRASSY CAST TO THEM & A VERY FEW BUFF FEATHERS IN THEM. I DID THIS VERY SAME TYPE OF CROSS OVER 30 YEARS AGO WITH MY LARGE FOWL BRAHMAS. I HAD BUFF & LIGHT IN BOTH SEXES THAT TIME, I HATCHED OVER 50 CHICKS. IT TAKES ABOUT 4 OR 5 GENERATIONS OF BREEDING THE BIRDS BACK TO THERE RESPECTIVE COLORS FOR THEM TO BREED TRUE AGAIN. BRADY J.

Define "breed true". What was off in the Buff pullets from the Buff male x Light female cross? I have a few of these in bantam in the brooder at the moment. I'd like to know what to watch for.

CLARE, NOTHING, I WOULDN'T BE AFRAID TO SHOW ANY OF THE BUFF PULLETS.THEY FINISHED OUT BETTER THAN MY PURE BUFF BRAHMAS. I ONLY CROSSED THEM BECAUSE I HAD NO LIGHT BRAHMA MALE FOR MY LIGHT BRAHMA HENS. I BRED THOSE BUFF PULLETS LAST FALL IN OCTOBER. THE EGGS HATCHED FIRST WEEK IN NOVEMBER. I GOT 12 CHICKS THAT ARE 4 MONTHS OLD NOW. ALL CAME OUT BUFF AND GOOD COLOR. NO MEALY LOOKING BUFF COLOR LIKE I THOUGHT SOME WOULD BE. BRADY J.

Cool, thanks for the info Brady!

YOU ALSO ASKED TO DEFINE BREED TRUE. THIS IS WHEN EACH COLOR ONLY BREEDS IT'S OWN COLOR. NO LIGHTS BEING THROWN BY BUFFS OR ANY VARIATIONS THERE OF & NO BUFFS BEING THROWN BY THE LIGHTS OR ANY VARIATIONS THERE OF. BRADY J.

As one of the biggest breeders in Europe and producing stock for clients who show and win at the nationals im very impressed to see after 10 years of hearing nothing my lines are now appearing in the US. Those Black/Turqoise and BSO chicks JHOUGHTON are amazing. If anyone wants to question breeding or make disrespectful remarks on these lines pls feel free to contact me personally as these are the best brahma's the USA has ever seen. They are true to size and type theyre not bantam cross breeds like most of the us brahmas and have winning lineage. Sjisty i believe you contacted me last year for eggs so they cant be that bad! Those that knock these birds are people that have very limited knowledge on colors and genetics. Youve only got to see the true size of these babies to realise their potentional. I wish you JH all the best showing these lines this year as your going to knock the banatm crossbreed standards straight off their feet...

"best Brahmas the USA has ever seen" really? We have a standard and our true exhibition birds are bred to that standard. "bantam crossbreeds"????? No one I know of has made "disrespectful remarks" towards Jason's birds. Jason is an ABC member and doing things right as far as i'm concerned. You, on the other hand, have entered our house and made numerous disrespectful, insulting and above all FALSE statements about OUR Brahmas. Light, Buff, and Dark are the three recognized varieties of large Brahmas in our standard. All other varieties are only qualified to win Best of Variety, NOT Best of Breed. Maybe you should educate yourself about Brahmas in the US BEFORE you start spouting off nonsense.

Tim

I'll agree, I haven't seen or heard anything disrespectful until that off the wall post.
That and it's also my understanding vulture hocks are not only permitted in Europe but also quite prevalent. By our standards this is an automatic DQ. And as far as knocking socks off, maybe in another 5 years or so IF they are accepted and then can actually win a show.
