Gah, you're right I had forgotten it was recessive. Sorry.

My understanding is the Isabel pattern is Partridge based with the Lavender gene. Recognized in Europe in Brahmas and...Leghorns?

If that is the case, theoretically you could breed partridge into them, and test mate to see who is carrying a hidden single copy of vulture hocks. Cull like a mad man, and be very carefull not to get that fault started in partridge as well.

Type wise are the partridge over here coming around much ? Being a variation of darks probably not helping them as much there, as if they were crossing to lights, or buffs even. Can't tell from the single photo of adult bird in the add if these Isabel's have any type either as far as that goes.

How does the lavender gene interact with darks? Could you maybe just use a dark, and then isolate the single copy and go from there? Might be easier to go that route. I'm not super familiar with the Brahmas "over there" but don't they allow vulture hocks? Which might mean the gene is more prominent in recently imported stock? I don't know, lots of questions.

This is why I personally stick with recognized varieties and breeds, I can't even work with all of those that I wish I could. I do applaud those that are creating new fun (and sometimes beautiful) colors though.

To my understanding lavender dilutes black, but is recessive, takes two copies to show. That why you always hear people talking about splits, (carrying one copy, but still showing black). So once you have lavender showing in both parents all chicks will show it, Verses the whole blue, black, splash ratio with blue. Now it looks to me the Isabel male has a sort of a cream color on his shoulders and such, so that makes me wonder if he is based on gold(partridge) rather than silver(dark).

It originally was based on gold (partridge) was my understanding, so I wonder if the silver (dark) would bleach out the Isabel's cream color. I just thought it might make project easier if you used a Dark but sounds like it would just muddle things.

You are right about lavender diluting black and splits and all that. Know many self blue OEG breeders that use that to their advantage to improve feather quality in the Self Blues. When I have more time and money then sense I would like to use Lavender Marans to attempt to make Lavender Langshans, as I think their type and coloring would make it a fairly easy outcross (backcross? since the signs point to Langshans being used to develop the Maran in the first place?), but now I'm straying rather far from the topic at hand so I'll stop rambling.

Aaggghhhh I was turning my eggs today and one of the eggs decided it was done and it rolled out and the small end of the egg got the $hit beat out of it. I took and put clear nail polish all over the cracks. It doesn't look like the membrane was punctured just the shell was badly cracked and missing a tiny piece in one spot. On the bright side of things I get to set a bakers dozen of brahma eggs today and I have 6 eggs in my hatcher working on hatching today. I have two pips so far.

where did you get your Brahma eggs ?

I adore the color on the Isabels! I have drooled over them before. I REALLY wish there were some in the states without the vulture hocks. I would have some in a heartbeat if I could find some.
