So, these are partridge brahmas that I grew from chicks from GFF. I am sure they are going to need some improvement so, what should I do to improve them? As they are bred in the fall what do I need to cull in the chicks that develop?

the dark one in the back, is that a partridge? i have several like that , don't know where the color came from

I guess my breeding pen is going to require some ladies. I know now that I have 3 Blue/Gold/Partridge roosters. Anyone know where I could get some? I know their are not very many breeders.

Well, from the photos they look pretty young yet. Not too bad, let em grow. Do you just have the pair? You can only start where you are with what you have. Hatch as many as you can handle. Let them mature and then think about culling. I can't tell if the male has VHs the ay your little girl is holding him. The female's look clean.

Tim, with the Partridge to improve type - would you cross with Darks and then back again or would that ruin the base color of the Partridge?

I don't know enough about that cross to even comment. I have never had Partridge. Sounds feasable....I really don't know. Gary???

Would be pure speculation on my part as well, but I think I would try to find a very good dark hen.

Mated to a partridge male, would produce gold based pullets, and split silver/gold cockerels. From there you could mate these gold pullets back to a partridge male to produce all gold chicks of both sexes.

Or if by chance one of the split males turns out to be the better typed bird, you could use him. Mated to a gold hen, would produce both silver and gold pullets, gold and split gold/silver cockerels.
Or you could breed this better typed split gold/silver male back to the original very good dark hen. This mating would produce pullets of both colors, silver and split cockerels, but hopefully of improved type.

Now something I'm unsure of, is whether proper partridge requires mahogany. I had assumed it did, and was the difference between a true partridge and the golden partridge prevalent in most Brahmas. If so, this would need to be aquired from another source, which will complicate things considerably. The beauty of the dark/partridge crossing being that they are the same pattern.
