Broken hearted went out this am seen 15 eggs in the nest went out and now none my fav hen has egg all over her head .
so do i send her to the pot as she is just 6 months old or do i give her another day ? really in tears

Well, I guess next time, remove them as fast as you can..maybe it was an accident??????? I'm such a softy

Love my 2 Light Brahmas...so sweet...they have trouble getting those eggs going, but they are so cute I don't care. "LaLa" and "ChaCha"

ok you asked for it, here is titanicus maximus, or titan for short. he never seems to wants to leave the colombian silkie hen even after putting here in the breeding pen. but it makes it easier to find him, not sure he liked he camera he didn't seem to want his picture taken.

he's about a year old now, and i know he's not perfect, but i don't want to breed him or show him he's just a good guy to have around maybe give the other roosters a good role model.
i dont think my silver or buff laced hens have the dreaded VH but im not convinced about the rooster, and i dont know a lot about brahmas but i don't think his comb or waddles are what they're meant to look like for a true brahma. so i thought it would be a good idea to put it out there see what people think about him the good is nice but im more interested in why he wouldn't be considered correct.so we can all learn, so please be blunt you wont hurt my feeling.

You are correct about the comb. Brahmas should have a pea comb, and his appears to be a single comb. Other than that, he should be a heavier set bird. More of everything. Also, when viewed from the back, the tail should spread in a broad inverted U shape. Big M who posts here frequently is working on Blue laced reds, and has posted some pics of some of his with better type.

I see you are from Michigan. The president of the American Brahma Club is also in MI and could be a source of some nice birds for you. I was just there visiting family. I was VERY tempted to look him up. My DH would have loved driving back to New Mexico with a trio of large fowl Light Brahmas (NOT)!

Leg color looks like it might be a little off.

Overall how important is leg color? I have one pullet I hatched out and she has one leg that is completely slate colored and the other is normal brahma color. Should I cull her???? Everything else appears to be looking good so far with her type/color.

I would cull her. Thats very odd that slate legs would pop up in a light or buff, much less only ONE leg. I assume you are talking about lights or buffs. Just my opinion, others may disagree.

Great to hear all the good comments love learning about all the different breeds out there.

When I got the eggs to hatch out last year I know they where a project and wouldn't look true to breed standard. but they do seem to have the calm gental personality that I was looking for when I decided I wanted some brahmas for my free range layer flock. And wasn't planing on keeping any of the boys, but only hatched out the one and he turned out to be a sweet heart. so he'll have a home with us for as long as he remains so well behaved. Love brahmas but need to hold off on adding new birds for a wile good to know there's a breeder closer by, next time I'm in the market I will have to look him up thanks

Also Is it just the ones I happened to hatched out or is it fair to say that the breed faults are more noticeable on the roosters than the hens?? Both of my girls have pea combs, yellow feathery legs, broad tails and round thicker body's, picture of the buff laced hen above.

Brahma breeder, is it bad to say just paint the off colored leg yellow??? or better yet breed her in hopes of a bicolored leg babies it would be a very rare color varity !!!

It's a buff I got from the whole light/buff cross. Guess she's on the chopping block now.
