What the heck is going on here, or maybe not going on here, would be more apropro. There are people talking chickens all up and down these pages, and a thread pertaining to the most magnificent breed of poultry known to man lays dormant for three days.? There are people yapping about all manner of common chickens, naked necks and even silkies, whatever they are classified as, and nothing here. C'mon people let's get it together.

All right now let's get back to talking about our birds. I sorted out some of this years young, most of these are out of theblue/ red columbian test breeding .A few are out of the blue laced red pen. Suprising range in the gold base of these chicks, anywhere from a pale buff, various shades of gold, to some approaching red.

I got a different computor after my old one crapped out. The new machine does not have the photo editing program my old one had, yet, so these are just as they came out of the camera. Hopefully I can down load something to help me blow up and then crop these into better shots.

These guys are out of my younger bunch, would have to check the calender. Figured you were out throwing some lead/steel maybe. You figure those silkie people really have real stuff to talk about ? I'd go look, but I don't want my name showing up as currently viewing over there, Got my rep to think about.

I'm still not convinced a silkie is even a chicken. Yep, it's been dove season all month and early teal started last Saturday. Bow season starts the 28th. Happy, happy, happy.

We will be picking up a up our Light Brahma rooster from Darlene in SC on our way home from Jeckel Island. He will be to put with our Blue Columbian Females to hopefully continue improving the project.

I got my first Brahmas ever from Darlene. They were the most people friendly chickens I've ever owned. The cockerel in my avatar got coddled so much as a youngster that he wouldn't eat scratch treats off the ground only out of the hand.

This is probably a stupid question, but are all Brahmas noisy? I have my general flock of 6 layers and hatched out two brahmas (the breed I've always wanted) about 7 weeks ago. The chicks never stop chirping, I swear they even chirp in their sleep! I don't mind too much, just wanted to know if this is normal or whether my youngsters are "needy".

The chicks were broody raised, so they've always been with the flock. My plan is to get a few more brahmas and focus on breeding/raising them in a separate pen. Any ideas or suggestions are very welcome.

First off, the only stupid questions .......are usually asked by those who don't have the good sense to raise Brahmas. Seriously though, Brahmas tend to be a gentle, quiet breed as a rule. Were the chicks seperated from the old hen ?

No, they were hatched and raised by a.....dare I say it?.....silkie mix

. She's been a good mom, starting to push them away now. But they've been peepers since day one. I've never raised chicks this long before, usually I get rid of them at about 4 weeks old. I know all chicks peep for their mother, but these two seem to be a little extreme and aren't even peeping for mom, they seem to just be peeping to peep. They are very friendly, although they won't let me pick them up yet. That will come when I separate them from the rest. They are also docile, not very flighty and sneaky devils....they manage to get out of the flight pen every day, still haven't caught them so I don't know where they get out at. I try to let mine free range for an hour or two every day. I have some feral cats and neighbors dogs that worry me so I can't let them out all day as I need to watch them when they are out (packin' a .22 pistol that takes care of any of those problems). I will post pictures this afternoon, my camera battery died when I went out to take pictures a few minutes ago.
