Here are my two day olds. The last one is a barnyard mix, but since we were taking family pictures I didn't want her to feel left out.

My first bator hatch, it went pretty well, I think. I learned a few things but overall had a pretty good hatch from the Brahmas. If I'm doing the feather sexing right, looks like 3 females, 1 male for the brahmas. I'm happy with that!

They are adorable !

Love seeing the chickies! I currently have 15 eggs on day 20 in my incubator. One could be a Brahma cross. Will I get shunned if I post my might-be-Brahma halfsy? The other possibility is it could have a Cochin mom. Roosters are a toss up, but if I am not mistaken RLW mixed with a DB would be sex-linked? I have been wrong before. But considering I only have one this round I don't think It will make a huge difference.

I have 12 Buffs out and one light so far. Have 24 buffs to the hatcher and 4 lights the 5th. One flat of about 35 buff and 10 lights set a couple of days back. I'll set no more Buffs until/unless my Buff hens start to lay. I will continue to set all light eggs till I get at least twenty or so hatched. Looks like I will have way more Buffs than I had hoped or planned for and far fewer Lights. I'll just go with it. How are you other exhibition folks doing with your hatching?

Right now I have none out. I've been trying for the last couple months, but only like five have developed. One hatched during the first cold snap and the garage door got left open...I changed their feed a smidge which seems to be showing improvements in the birds. I think part of my problem goes back to the fact that it is so cold. Their waterers were freezing too soon leading to them not getting enough water. Now that I am feeding a wet mash in the afternoon these problems should be getting fixed. My rooster was so happy the other day compared to how he has been for most of this miserable winter. He was crowing his little heart out and I caught him mounting the two hens he was with at the moment.

Hopefully I'll get chicks soon!

I'll bet your hatch will improve as the weather warms. It has been a rough Winter(even for us sissy Texans). Supposed to be 73 here today and only 28 tomorrow with snow and ice,30 mph NORTH wind, BRRRRR! 15 Sunday night.......back to the 60's by week's end! Roller coaster! Hang in there. You'll get some birds out. I hope to have some good ones ready for the BIG show Nov 7,8,9.

I hope it does soon. I really want to have a few birds hatched from this season old enough to show at the Ohio National. I'm already pushing it as it is. That Aldrich boy I bought last year should be able to hold his own at the show, so I'm not too concerned.

Laying has slowed down a bunch, but I gave them a crap ton of Cayenne pepper today and will for a few more days. That should get them going again.

Hm maybe I should get the cobwebs off of my wallet and finally join the Brahma Club...

Absolutely. Non-members are not eligible for club prize money. At Crossroads quite a bit of prize money for the junior show went un-awarded. Join the club!
