[tuesdays chicks]

LOL msfoot I have a poorly colored brahma I'm not convinced is a hen, I was looking at her tail yesterday comparing it to the pics posted and it seems she only has like 5 proper black tail feathers which I never really noticed before, the only bird I have I think is pure breed is my BO that I got from a different source, I think my chicks came from mixed flocks.

Isn't it frustrating? Of course my Light Brahma is my favorite so all of my original 4 are boys and 1 of my sister in laws spur of the moment dont want to be left out chickens is a boy so now the only hen i have is my SIL's Astrolorp or however you spell it and she is moody and doesn't like being held...I'm heartbroken

I'm almost certain I will be. I have yet to ask off, but know I need to.

My birds always seem to drop every feather they have just before the show. Always happens. I need to go back home and get a good look at the birds I'm thinking of showing.

All I can say about the answer is because the person only wants to HEAR a certain answer. Issue is, as much as you may wish it, thinking it won't change the inevitable outcome.

I don't understand what is with all the rudeness I'm okay with him being a rooster...that isn't an issue at all when he does crow I have a home for him already so I"m okay with having to rehome him the question was simply how long it usually takes I wasn't trying to convince myself of him being a her simply stating I found it odd that HE hasn't shown an He signs....that was all and that it was odd with him being the top in the pecking order and that with the other 3 roos gone who did crow I would have thought he'd step it up a bit...maybe not it has nothing to do with not wanting to hear what someone has to say....I had to no problems accepting that my buff brahma was a male after being told other wise so I don't understand what is with the rudeness. It makes us lesser knowing people not want to ask anything when all you get is rude reply's or comments on how poorly colored your chickens are...we are first time owners who cares what they look like if we aren't breeding and showing we are still proud of them and love them just as much.

I was simply saying how frustrating it was when you buy 6 chickens and all but one is a rooster they are my kids pets so its hard on not just me but them as well. So rather than sit around and gossip give your opinions but do it lightly because not all of us see our chickens as just being disposable or a source of food. We aren't all experts like some on here so identifying things on one chicken in comparison to the other one might be hard for some of us so understand that please before being rude and making nasty comments.

All right children,

Mrsfoote the rate of maturity is often directly related to finished adult size. My silver laced cockerels(large fowl) don't even think about crowing until well into the spring, making them about 10 months old. My red cockerels are a few months ahead of them, but they don't reach the same final size, yet. Your cockerel, and rest assured it is a cockerel, will crow when the mood strikes him, be patient.

Guys I know it's frustrating dealing with some of the folks on here, but there is so much potential to help, and share you experience with a lot of people here, those that have the sense to recognize it anyway. Some are very green and need a patient hand, some have their own ideas, all you can do is put it out there and let them sort themselves out.

I do agree...we like lucy so much although I should probably find a better name for him now than Lucy...any ideas on that?? Lol we like him so much we've contemplated having him as a house rooster...couldn't be much louder than a amazon parrot right??? lol
