Sjisty. Otherwise good luck even finding Partridge in the US. I tried contacting the only TWO people elsewise, which only one of those was on the Brahma Club's list, and one I never got anything from, the other couldn't ship birds or eggs.

Illia, before the old Brahma site closed shop there were a few of the ladys working with Partridge large fowl. Try contacting Sandy K. the recent past secretary of Brahma Club and she might be able to help you find the Partridge. Don

I tried contacting Sandy and there was no reply. Chad Spence, however, helped a lot.

Sjisty - Again, LOVE your birds and would love eggs from you in the spring.

They may not be show quality here, but they remind me alot of the UK breeding of Partridges. And although your younger partridge boys may not get your ex-cock's color, I sure hope they get the body.

Thanks Illia - They are definitely getting close - the boys are mounting some of my hens but I haven't checked for fertility yet. Body-wise, they are beyond huge! Here are some pictures from today. Hatch date is April 12 on all these guys, except for Rowdy and Danny.

Junior's colors are starting to pop, even though he is mostly "blue."

This is Mel - he is even bigger than Junior. I'm not sure what you would call him. Mom was lemon pyle and dad was blue partridge, just like Junior.

Kermit (he loves frogs) is the lemon pyle color. He's behind Junior, because Junior is such a ham! Kermit has a brother, Casey. I'm going to have to rehome one of them, if anyone is interested.

This is today's picture of Danny. He is just coming out of his molt, so his colors are starting to brighten. He's a normal partridge and much smaller than the big guys, even though he is about the same age.

Lastly, this is Rowdy. I think he has better color than Junior. He is about five weeks younger but his color is popping already! He is camera shy, so this was the best I could do.

Over the winter, hubby will be making a new coop/run, and then no more free ranging for these guys, or at least for the girls. They have to make lots of babies! I will be pairing Danny with the blue girls and my blue boys get to have the normal girls, since all the blues are related.

I have some turn up in my blue laced red Brahma project chicks occasionally. Judgeing by the pulletts some are partridge, some are closer to double laced. I will try to get out and take inventory of what I have in the later hatches.

This is a cockerel that showed up last year.

Sjisty: I love Kermit's color. If only he were a girl or had a girl. . .

Now, do any of your Brahmas have a "crown" above their eyes? (the hooded hawk look)

Kermit has a couple of sisters, so in the spring ...

I'm not sure what you are talking about with the crown, so I would say no, they don't.

Thanks for the feedback. I've been trying to be careful about the treats (though the brahmas tend to be so focused on their food bowl that they don't notice when the treats come out.) I'm interested in the sprouted grain idea, so will look into that further --- thanks for the idea!

Sjisty- your birds are lovely. looks like a great project.

General Question: around what age do Light Brahma cockerels generally 1) show comb growth and 2) sprout hackle and/or saddle feathers?

I haven't posted in this thread in a while, and the birds are aging nicely so I figured I'll show some updated pictures of them

Just wanted to share my first "Show" experience today with everyone. I went to the show today in Inverness, FL to purchase three LF Dark Brahmas that would be "Show Quality" from Noted breeder Susan Nicolas. I got WAY MORE than I anticipated. Susan brought 7 Darks and 2 Blacks (all LF). Well, she let me pick my birds after the 2nd show (double point show) and I brought home the following:

Cockeral:
1st in his class (he was the only one in the class - BUT HE IS HUGE, nice coloring, nice beetle brow, heavy leg feathering and no vulture hocks)
Pullet:
1st Show: 1st in class, Reserve Best of Variety. 2nd Show: 3rd in Class.
Hen #1:
1st Show: 2nd In Class. 2nd Show: Reserve Best of Variety.
Hen #2:
1st Show: 1st in Class, Best of Variety, Best of Breed, Best Asiatic. 2nd Show: Repeat. Made Champion Row both times. Cool!

I got to see some gorgeous birds and saw my first Black and Partridge Brahmas. Anxiously awaiting hatching season with my new Dark's!

PS: Yes - I went to buy three and ended up with four....<grin>
