My understanding is that at least part of the lineage is from the Bhramaputra area of India, quite a hot area. I have also seen mention in several other areas of their heat hardiness.. Interesting that you have found the opposite to be true.

I also live in Florida and raise Brahmas and have found them to be heat tolerant. My cages are very open which allows any type of breeze to come thru but thus far I have not added fans or misting. I do give them electrolytes in the summer and have never had any problems.

My Brahmas free range. In the summer they find plenty of shade. I don't use electrolytes but do give plenty of cold treats such as watermelon, frozen corn, etc. We live in central Florida and they have done well.

PPP, I'm still around, I just mostly watch and read now. KinderKorner, lots of people in Texas and Florida have SQ standard Brahmas, they take the heat and cold.

I have my breeding pens set up and set my first eggs yesterday.

Well, we set two posts today, cleaned the area, and then came in and watched football, so still lots of work left.

I stretched fence, dug the holes for the posts and then realized I never bought the posts! LOL

Two more pens to add on to my current set up and then the free range fencing to get up. I am just scared to turn them loose without me being out there right now since loosing my last roo to a fax in the middle of the day. I haven't lost a bird in a while and I am not ready to start. Besides with two new pens, I may have to get some Buff and Light Brahmas - why not right?

Okay, so between us we built less than half a coop - pretty pittiful! I definitely think you need some more colors. I have lights, but they aren't good quality, so I've been told. I have a couple of buffs, too, but I'm going to concentrate on the lemons and partridges.
