I currently have 3 LF Light Brahma hens and 2 EE hens, I would like to hatch a few eggs, and the Brahma seems like the way I would like to go. Now I know that hatching will most likely result in a mix of hens and roos, and that is part of the reason I want to hatch. To add a few more hens to the flock, and a rooster to help repopulate the flock as needed.
The reputation of the breed as being gentle and calm is important. Do the roosters tend to follow the trend and remain a more "calm" rooster? Or is jut luck of the draw and they are what they are. I expect to have to cull a few roosters if I should somehow end up some what succesful in hatching eggs, and behavior I'm sure is an important part of the selection process.
We are zoned farm and having livestock is not an issue(having a roo screaching all day is still something I would like to aviod), I just want to try and avoid aggressive behavior issues and the like as much as I can, and I figure starting with a breed with a rep for being relaxed is a good start.
The Brahmas I have now are little dolls, so I figure a few more can only be good.
