Well I have my roo named Rudy who hatched with 12 other roos and 5 hens. Could this have turned him mean because I recently sold all the others becide him. I felt bad because all the others beat him up and kept him as a pet and to watch the hens. Being in with this many roos, could that have possibly been the cause?

Question- I am having issues with the color of my gold laced brahmas. I have had then since 2010 and this is my 3rd generation here at my place. They came from Dan Powell. I hatched a batch a few weeks ago and they were great. Today I have more hatching and I am seeing some bluish color instead of the black I usually see. I am so disapointed. Im upset because I sell the eggs from these birds and now I have inconsistance in the flock. They were never consistant on the gold and black color but this just threw me. Anyone else have this issue? Should I dump the bird or keep weeding them out?

I have never had blue turn up spontaneously in my birds. Unless one of the parents is blue, or splash, very unlikely any of the chicks are.

Now as to the consistancy, the key to that is to only use the select few birds that are the closest to perfect in type, pattern, and color, in your breeding pens. Including birds of marginal qaulity only increases the number of chicks that carry these shortcomings. It does not take many generations for this to take it's toll on a flock. I've heard old breeders say something to the effect of, "You get what you will tolerate".

As far as temperament on the bantam males, I have raised all varieties and between generations, I have males and females that were overly aggressive. Sometimes it would skip a generation, I have tried to science this out some but could not pin point one particular situation except that I do believe it is hereditary. I have had some bad dudes in my day and some that were just crazy scared. But never culled birds for temperament.

I have dark and partridge standards and they are not the least bit aggressive My partridge rooster comes running to me everytime I go outside. If I am near his coop he expects to get a treat. The breeder I got him from gave her birds frozen peas everyday at 4:00 so they expect a treat around that time Unfortunatly they cant tell time and think its treat time all the time lol

i'm going to asume not judgeing by the picture. So how do I keep Rudy from getting worse than he is. He is 10 months old. I really like him and want to keep him but my brother has become terrified of chickens now because Rudy flogged him in the private area. Rudy hasn't gotten me but got 2 of my brothers, my grandfather, and my sister.
