BB, there is no best age to show a Large fowl Brahma. What you have to go by is development and maturity. Most Large Brahma are ready between 11-12 months.

Lot of Brahma Bantam breeders that like for them to be around six months for the female right about POL.

I am about 30 mile SW of Oklahoma City. I lived in Orange county from 87 to 97. Sure miss the weather. lol

Have not seen any LF Brahmas here in my woods.

A while back on this thread someone was asking about using the three established varieties of Brahma to improve one or the other. I have done all three several times over the years and sometimes it just has to be done.

Buff female to Light male
light female to Buff male
Light female to Dark Male

The female from the first year will be very nice . All males from the matings will be eliminated the first year keeping none.

From all three of these matings breed the pullets back to a male the same as father. The males from this will be very nice and as they mature discard any that are off color.

Remember do not use culls to do these matings as all you will get is more culls. Try and use females on the larger side with good type, same goes for the males.

I plan on doing the buff rooster to light hens. Then I will caponize all the roosters. What would happen if I did take one of the cross roosters and bred them to the light hen that made them?

Well see I forgot to say that the young females should look like the father. breed them back to father and young male and female will look like the father.

If you bred one of the cull males back to the light original females you would get more culls and I would not do the mating. There has to be some kind of goal when crossing these varieties.
