I have a very good percentage hatch from my own Brahma eggs, but have had between 0/12 and 5/6 with shipped eggs. I think that the postal journey is usually the culprit.

I am maintaining the temp (100), humidity is at 40 (when I had it higher I was getting quitters), and I leave them for 18 hours to set before putting in the incubator. Oh, and I am using forced air.

I guess from watching others on here, I see them having more development whether they hatch or quit early with different breeds. My last couple of hatches, most haven't developed since day 1.

My eggs hatching this next week, none of the lighter colored eggs developed and all the dark ones are developing (same seller).

Should I try incubating larger numbers of eggs? I normally stay under 8 at a time.

I have had pretty rough luck hatching shipped eggs. My results have been 2/36 and 0/18. I then drove 5 hrs to one of the breeders and brought eggs home in my own car. Almost all of those hatched. Shipping can be brutal on eggs.

I have found that if the eggs are fresh and the parent birds are in excellent health, I get a better a better percentage of shipped eggs to hatch

A BYC friend in Michigan sent me 11 (2 bantam Cochin & 9 bantam buff Brahma) eggs here to California and 10 hatched! Then I bought some bantam buff Brahma eggs from a breeder (they came from South Carolina to California) and 9 out of 12 made it to hatch! It also helps to have a good incubator

I use the Octagon 20 Advance ex. Takes all of the guess work out of hatching

I don't think the larger numbers will make a difference. I have shipped eggs in the incubator now. I got three batches from 3 different states, all from people that came with high recommendations. Out of 60 eggs, I only have 12 developing. I blame it on heat and rough shipment. I had a few blood rings but most didn't start developing. I am also using two different incubators, a gqf sportsman and a mini brinsea and the results were the same with both. Good luck to you, I know how frustrating it is!

Love my Light Brahma girls which has spurred me into a real Brahma fan.

I just put 2 colors of Brahmas eggs in my incubator, shipped eggs.
One shipment was really expensive Silver Laced-- Greenfire .I went overboard on bidding (my stupid idiocy) but now i am concerned i wont get ANY hatches from it after reading here
I did have them put a cool pack in with them as its so very hot here but was pretty dissapointed that it was a really small one and sat right on top of some of the eggs(only about 3 it was so small.) and not with a barrier of bubble wrap between like others do.
Also the USPS sent it 5 1/2 hours right past me and had to bring them back 5 1/2 hrs by truck...more riding...but they came on day 3 anyway still lots of bumping around.
They really need to some prayers and luck to get any of them after everything going NOT in their favor

.The others are Buff Brahmas Hope they are as pretty as the ones i see on here IF i get any to hatch.if not i will go to Cackle Hatchery which is driving distance and buy a couple.
WAs hoping for better quality in the shipped eggs... AND Just like this hatching thing.Fun

Just caponized a buff brahma cockerel today. I also did three R.I.R. Everyone that went into surgery came out fully caponized. Right now they are bunking with my silkies.

I encourage everyone to learn as much as they can and go into it with open eyes. Yes the raising costs the same, but the entry price may be more than some may care to for eggs. If you are just an egg harvester you may just choose the best you can afford to start, and wait to buy the more expensive "show birds" when you have more knowledge to both further the breed and care for the genetics necessary for promoting the BREED and not the chickens.
As I said before there are show birds worth the price, but if you are not knowledgeable enough you can ALSO be taken by breeders selling you PQ as SQ birds. Then you pay a premium for the education.

ok i know im new to this site but post 4018 says its a post from want brahmas 2 . but i never said any of that so i dont no what is going on here i commented on a post and said !!! A long time ago when i got into raising brahmas a good fried of mine Tom Wiltshire told me Qoute,. it takes as much feed to raise a mut as it does to raise a show chicken !!! good thing to remember . why raise a hatchery chicken when you can go to a breeder and raise the true stature of what the breed is supose to be ... there is so much more beauty in the show chicken ..and if you love Brahmas then keep them as close to the apa standard as possiable . Just one mans thought !!!! want brahmas 2

I agree in that shipped eggs are most often the process. I bought brahma eggs 2x from the same breeder. First shipement I had 33/39 eggs hatch. second shipment at second candleing I only have 15/30 eggs develeopment. It was a bit hotter for second shipment. Eggs are from the exact same stock and not too far apart. Anyway, like everyone says, with shipped eggs you are taking a risk. There's just no way around it!
