I am so excited!! my beautiful light Brahmas - Violet, Edna and Clara (named after my mother and her two sisters who were in charge of the chickens on their farm in North Dakota while growing up) are 23.5 weeks old and Violet laid her first egg yesterday! Big beautiful, nicely formed with a thick shell!! They are all three squatting so hopefully the other two will start laying shortly. I have been stalking this site for a long time learning as much as I can about my brahmas and trying to figure out when they would start laying. I truly figured that I had about 4-5 weeks more to go. Just had to post - this is one proud mama doing the chicken dance! Have a great day everyone!!!

Congratulations. It's always eggciting when you get a first egg from your birds.

I will have a dozen gold laced brahma hatching eggs from daniel powell lines?? coming to me soon. Can anyone tell me who this Daniel Powell is and why he's important? hehe - I googled but couldn't find anything.

Are the gold laced variety APA recognized? If they're not I'll be bummed out, but I'll get over it because I think they are lovely.
