Brain teaser/ math expert help needed!!!!

Where X is jones age now and 2x+x is smith age now
(Where smith has aged x years from when he was twice jones age) so x+x+2x+x = 91
So 4x = 91. Solve for x, then solve for smith age.

EDIT for typos

I think the part in bold, is the trick question. Smith is saying that at the age Jones is currently, he was twice his age. So for giggles, lets assume Jones is 30.. That would make Smith 60. So we are missing one year.. But it could be by months only.. So some portion thereof maybe.. Does that make any sense?? My brain is smoking.. LOL

Wow I'm lost

Ok, let me try on the net book.

I have a kid his age is X

I have a cousin's kid who is " (now) twice as old as my kid when she (the cousin's kid) was the age my child is"

The combined age is 8.

X = my kids age now
2x+x = twice my kids current age plus my kids age= cosin's kids current age = 2x+x = 3x

combined age is 8 so 2x+x+x =8 or 4x=8 solve for x...

My kid is two

My cousin kid is 6, when my cousin's kid was four my kid was two.

See?

So using this problem's numbers instead - the crook really could have made it easier by saying I'm three times Jones current age.

4x = 91

91/4 = 22.75 = x which is Jones current age

3x = 68.25 = smith's current age

68.25 + 22.75 = 91 =checked my work.

I don't know.. But I think the title of the thread should be changed from Brain Teaser, to Brain Melter.. I had to step away from the thread and get a handful of M&Ms' to combat the headache I was getting while trying to figure this out... I didn't realize how long it has been since I was in school.. Math was my best subject... Other than cooking and finances, I obviously don't use math enough anymore.... Atleast not on a more complex level. It's all just basics now...
