I, as a rule, can't bring myself to find gaited horses attractive with their big long oversized head and freakishly (though human manipulated) over-exagerated gait. Hiddeous!!!!

I'm not a big fan of TBs or Arabs. I just don't really care for their body types or the dished faces of the arabs. However, I have met several very nice individuals of both breeds that were a pleasure to ride. If I have a choice though, I usually go for the bigger, stockier horses!

I dont hate any breed but I dont care for mini horses......they are freakishly small

when I think horse, I think big powerful animal.

That being said I dont think its fair to 'hate' a specific breed of horse. Maybe an individual horse of a breed but all horses of that breed? Iv worked with dozens of breeds of horses at the training/lesson stable where I work and find that they all very in temperment no matter the breed. I have had the pleasure of working with a 9 year old OTTB recently that you could do anything with and was a fabulous kids horse. You could literally throw your inexperienced elderly grandma on her and not worry about a thing even though TBs are considered 'hot' horses. I have also had a bad experience with another TB who was abused at a past home and pinned me up against the stall wall when he was startled, he was just plain nasty and untrusting of humans due to past neglect. He broke my arm but I dont hate TBs.

American Saddlebreds and Tennessee Walking Horses do not HAVE to have an exaggerated gait. That's something people have done fairly recently and it doesn't have much to do with their heritage.

I've been around both. Typically, the saddlebred can do dressage, jumping, just about anything you want. Great for driving. A lot of bottom and want to go, never did get the feeling I had to do a lot of convincing, LOL. As far as actual gaited riding, there are few things one can do with a horse that are more exciting than racking at speed. While it's been traditional for many years for such horses to lift their feet up and carry their heads high, this can be done without the present bizarre exaggeration and exaggerated shoes, and boy is that fun.

As for Tennessee Walkers, much the same, they are very popular with the National Park System for example, and all they do is ride trails with them.

As far as the 'big huge long head', it only looks that way compared to some other breeds with unnaturally chunky or exaggeratedly sculpted faces. I like the masculine noble look of those breed's heads. Of course a few are too coarse, but that's true of any breed.

Please modify your post to indicate this video shows ring bull fighting horses so those who cannot watch that can avoid opening the link.

I cannot watch it, it makes my physically ill.

I have an Arab/Saddlebred mare that could quite literally run circles around any of your ranch bred horses. While she does get mare-ish, she still works and is functional during her estrus phase. During an endurance race, she gets fired up with adrenaline, but around home she's gentle enough for my 6 yr old daughter to ride her in the arena and on the trails.

And she has worked cattle too at a small ranch here in Michigan. While she could never be a roping horse or cutting horse, she did live with cattle for 12 years and can herd and move them.

This same horse hasn't been ridden in a week since I've been busy at work, yet DD was able to lead her in the ring, mount up and walk and trot her around the arena quite nicely despite having both Arabian and Saddlebred genetic material in her.

Welsummer Chicks also had a great post.

Again, while I'm not a Quarter Horse person, I don't have anything against the BREED. I just don't like the idiots at the county fair that think my horse is psychotic just because it has a thin Arab halter on.

Your arab may be able to run circles around mine...but mine are bred for a single purpose...long hours of work....not running around in a race. When working cattle we can be on horseback for 10 or more hours a day. My horse has done both roping and cutting, will turn on a dime and if your not ready for it will turn fast enough to throw you off. Theres a big difference between being able to move cattle and working cattle. I can move cattle on the ground without a horse. I also dont have to worry about him going stupid on me if I dont ride him for a week or two. He knows his job and does it well. I dont have to lunge him to get him calmed down like alot of horses. Just saddle up and go. Hell he even opens his mouth for the bit.

It's great that you have horses like this, and no matter what I say, you're going to do excatly what Pat said: try to sell me on why your horses are better than mine. That's fine and I'm trying to tell you that my Arab/Saddlebred is not a "ring around the rosy" show horse. She's been over a lot of rough terrain, been around livestock, and can still function every month even during her heat. I haven't lunged her in years, despite her breeding, I can still leave her for a week and hop back on without any issues.

There are exceptions to rules. Despite being a Michiganiac, endurance rider and owner of an Arab/Saddlebred, I have a good horse who does not fit into your preconceived notion of how an Arab/Saddlebred mare should behave.

Did I mention she's barefoot too?

I hate paints , paso finos , arabians or stallions even though they aren't a breed...........on the other hand love, love , love morgans , thoroughbreds and quarter horses

Fancy,

Kit Kat and myself both thank you for standing up for the BIG BUTTED Paint Mares.

Also one thing I don't understand some people post that they hate Paints but love Quarter Horses or Thoroughbreds well they need to do some research as Paint horses are for the most part just COLORED Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds. So therefore its not the breed Paints i'm assuming they "hate" its the color which each to his own but i'd much rather be riding something colorful that stands out. Rather than a solid sorrel or bay or brown, etc., just like everyone else, JMO

Also just for the record I don't hate any horse or breed of horse. I was taught as a very young child by an older gentleman farmer that there was no such thing as a bad horse just a bad trainer, owner, or rider and I know there are exceptions to every rule but for the most part I have found his words to be very true throughout my life.
