Breed of horse you absolutely HATE! or Dis like ?

What's wrong with hate if it's used as loosely as it has been? You have your beliefs on the word & I have mine, so.........

Welsummerchick This thread is what don't you like and why... That said... I stated my lack of preference... I am not "picking on" any breed... I have a vast experience with horses and my experience with this breed leads me to MY OPINION which is what is asked..

I have not commented on other ppls dislikes and likes... Leave mine alone please.. Just commented. My experience is that... it is mine... others may differ.

Sorry, after reading this thread I'm leaving to go saddle up my BIG BUTT Paint mare and go for a ride!

Fancy

Enjoy your ride Fancy!!! I am going to saddle up either my TB, Morgan, Quarab, Arab, Wellara, Section D welsh cob or maybe of my mustangs...Or maybe I will ride my nieghbor's walker or one of her pain horses ... (life is like a box of chocolates... ) Funnest horse ever... Missouri Foxtrotter or Icelandic in Tolt... Totally a scream... I recommend it for everyone. All horses have merit... My least favorite currently is the drafty breeds like Haflingers for reasons I have already stated....

I agree.
Everybody thinks their chosen breed is the best. If somebody expresses dislike the owner wants to convince you why it is the best.
Beauty IS IN the eye of the beholder.

I've heard guys have the same conversation over cars, motorcycles, golf clubs etc (and woman

Some horse breeds don't appeal to me nor would I go out and buy one of those. I can express my opinion by not purchasing one of them. But I respect the personal choice others have made. Not my cup of tea but there is lots of different tea out there.

I was in the show circuit long enough to keep my mouth shut on this type of matter. It can make for bad feelings and can come to blows.

I have an Arab/Saddlebred mare that could quite literally run circles around any of your ranch bred horses. While she does get mare-ish, she still works and is functional during her estrus phase. During an endurance race, she gets fired up with adrenaline, but around home she's gentle enough for my 6 yr old daughter to ride her in the arena and on the trails.

And she has worked cattle too at a small ranch here in Michigan. While she could never be a roping horse or cutting horse, she did live with cattle for 12 years and can herd and move them.

This same horse hasn't been ridden in a week since I've been busy at work, yet DD was able to lead her in the ring, mount up and walk and trot her around the arena quite nicely despite having both Arabian and Saddlebred genetic material in her.

Welsummer Chicks also had a great post.

Again, while I'm not a Quarter Horse person, I don't have anything against the BREED. I just don't like the idiots at the county fair that think my horse is psychotic just because it has a thin Arab halter on.

Your arab may be able to run circles around mine...but mine are bred for a single purpose...long hours of work....not running around in a race. When working cattle we can be on horseback for 10 or more hours a day. My horse has done both roping and cutting, will turn on a dime and if your not ready for it will turn fast enough to throw you off. Theres a big difference between being able to move cattle and working cattle. I can move cattle on the ground without a horse. I also dont have to worry about him going stupid on me if I dont ride him for a week or two. He knows his job and does it well. I dont have to lunge him to get him calmed down like alot of horses. Just saddle up and go. Hell he even opens his mouth for the bit.

I agree, txred, I'm a ranch hand & without a good horse my job would be SOOOO hard. I don't have time to babysit a horse, waiting for it's" anxiety attack". I need a good horse that knows what I want & does it right then & there without hesitation. We have Qh's & Morgans on the ranch & that's exactly the breed we need for the job.

Not necessarily a breed for everyone... But man is it fun to watch.. I just love to watch a horse that knows his job... whatever job that is...

Those that can watch... Have a good time!!!
Sorry for those with dial up!!!

Pumpkin- what you see in the show ring IS a man made artificial created gait. Many shows now employ vets and the federal government are scrutinizing the shows where this type of showing occurs.
Nails, irritants and other devices have been used to try to get a BIGGER gait out of TWH's and some other gaited breeds.
They generally don't have overly large heads, its a plain, straight profile, that comes from a foundation breed that is now extinct.. the Narraganset Pacer, some STB breeding, and in the KY Mtn, Rocky Mtn, and Mtn Pleasure horse, they had one particular foundation sire, kinda like the Morgan breed, a very amiable, loveable gaited stallion named Tobe. he was bred to mares into his 30's, he was used on a rental string, (ride by the hour) by all kinds of riders.

Thanks for the kind words about "princess poos alot", aka the "bobble head horse" Indi, my mare!!
Carol

I accidentally stumbled onto a U-tube page that had "Big Lick" gaited horses. OHMYGAWD this was the worst of the worst of human torture!

Ya'all gotta go check it out and then come and post what you think......Then within the Dressage world (the cheaters) employ what is called "Rollkur" which is another form of TORTURE! Also on U-tube. What is wrong with these people.
