Breed of horse you absolutely HATE! or Dis like ?

You tell it like it is. I have had many different breeds over the years, QT. TB. Paint. WB and now an Appendix QT. Out of all of them the QT would be my fav---he was the most willing/try anything/do anything for you horse I will ever meet. The TB, on the other hand, had a genetic makeup that made him a HORROR to work with. He was beligerant, snotty and just plain nasty to me. After 2 years of trying ( I did get him to first level at dressage however) I finally gave up and gave him away to a man that took him quite far. I found out he really disliked women! With guys he was OK (GO figure?) The Appendix QT I have now was a grump (mare) from the ages of 5 till 9 but at age 10 she mellowed out and is a sweetheart to work with. She has a very scaredey-cat nature and it took her that long to totally trust me. I know that this stemmed from the TB nature to run first and ask questions later so I had to "endure" be patient and just keep reaffirming and ALOT of hanging on while she bucked and spooked. Now she is the best dressage horse I have ever had the pleasure to train and ride. As a footnote, I tried Vitamin B-1 to help calm the "moody mare" that can cause spooks etc...and it worked VERY VERY well for her.
My Swedish WB was very different from the american horses. They are calm and agreeable for the most part but it is the evasion tricks that they pull that is different. Between the 2 of us we could probably write novels about our experiences with horses.......

OK, who do you like better a baby fuzzy-butt or a horse ??? Now THIS is a hard question to answer..

I have an Arab/Saddlebred mare that could quite literally run circles around any of your ranch bred horses. While she does get mare-ish, she still works and is functional during her estrus phase. During an endurance race, she gets fired up with adrenaline, but around home she's gentle enough for my 6 yr old daughter to ride her in the arena and on the trails.

And she has worked cattle too at a small ranch here in Michigan. While she could never be a roping horse or cutting horse, she did live with cattle for 12 years and can herd and move them.

This same horse hasn't been ridden in a week since I've been busy at work, yet DD was able to lead her in the ring, mount up and walk and trot her around the arena quite nicely despite having both Arabian and Saddlebred genetic material in her.

Welsummer Chicks also had a great post.

Again, while I'm not a Quarter Horse person, I don't have anything against the BREED. I just don't like the idiots at the county fair that think my horse is psychotic just because it has a thin Arab halter on.

Quarter horses, absolutely. Have seen a very disporportionate amount of them be lame compared to other breeds. There have been a few personalities that I have hated amongst them, but what I really hate is what they have done to the breed. They have ruined far too many of them by breeding them badly, although the same can be said of Thoroughbreds.

My first love is and always has been the Arabian, particularly the purebred Egyptian. Currently have large Section D Welsh Cob and have bred some as well. Would love to try a Cleveland Bay one day, but that is a vanishing breed.

There is not a specific breed I dislike at all. I have owned a Morgan, Quarter horse and Appy in the past. I currently own a Tennessee Walker Gelding and a Haflinger mare. LOVE them both to pieces. I am not a fan of "hot" horses, no matter what breed. I used to love green/hot horses but now in my old age of 33 and my herniated discs in my back, I don't bounce back like I used to when I was younger. I don't believe in discriminating against a specific breed, I always base it on individual horses. The same with mare/gelding, it all depends on the horse.

I can't say I dislike any in particular, though I would likely never own a draft since I really wouldn't have a use for one.

Virtually all of my experience is with Arabs, Saddlebreds, and mixes of those two. Love 'em.

Only horse I've met that I really didn't care for was a Miniature...but that was likely just the individual.

Re: Breed of horse you absolutely HATE! or Dis like ?I find it funny and odd on the Halflinger post.. I have friends who have them, and they are the NICEST ponies/horses ever...
She teaches little, little kids to ride, using them.
Did you know there are certain lines of Halfies.. like people who want certain bloodlines in QH, Two eyed jack, poco bueno...
There are A lines, N line, W line , P line and others..
Some are more refined and smaller for riding, others are more drafty looking... It could be your halfies came from certain lines.

A broke Haflinger than knows it's job is a joy... No matter what, they are wide, and most travel heavy... The few that are a saddle type are nice to ride. No matter what a draft horse is a draft horse and they act like a draft horse... Just saying on the whole if I had to pick a breed that wasn't a favorite... It would be the Haflinger... (my opinion)... I draw on many years as a rescue agent... Bloodlines have nothing to do with it... I have had old amish blood as well as some of the newer lines... They know they are big most of em... My friend who runs an equine rescue out of a nieghboring county will not even take them because of the liability... (bucking) etc.. and the property damage.. I took a few during my 12 year run as a rescue and I must tell you.... There is a reason Pride Rescue doesn't like em. Oh they are sooo cute... but they are NOT puppies and your nieghbor may have a nicely schooled one... That doesn't change my opinion one bit... hand it over to someone who is an inexperienced handler and you can have an injury... That is what I am saying... They are hard to fit saddle wise and a lot like riding a pickle barrel. You have to watch their diet as they are extremely easy to keep and it is this factor that leads to a LOT of trouble...They want something... they just go get it... an inexperienced handler that thinks they are "o so cute" is likely to overtreat them and that is asking for trouble... I have seen more hospitalization from this breed in just ground handling than any other on the whole.... I used to take a lot of OTT and abused Arabians... (that is what I got the most) I would take those all day long to Haflingers... They are thick and not sensitive so getting them on "your program" is harder than a saddle type horse.

Hand ANY breed to an inexperienced handler/rider and you have problems. Why pick on Halflingers? It works that way for any breed.

It's weird. Breed gets popular, generally because it's a 'hair breed' (Friesians, Gypsy) or it's a 'color' (Gypsy Vanner, etc). Lots of people buy the breed without having any experience because it's 'so beautiful', and all of a sudden, 'breed is bad'.

Happens with Arabians too, Thoroughbreds. 'oooooh, <Arabians, Thoroughreds, Lipizanners> are sooooo beautiful, I want one!' It isn't always color. It can be 'mystique', too. The Arabian from the romantic desert sands, the bold, brave Thoroughbred racing so fast through the centuries, the QH being ridden by Marlboro man....also extends to inexperienced people buying advanced horses, unbroke horses, etc....then it's more what they think about themselves than the horse.
