Breed?

One was supposed to be a lavender amercauna and other was supposed to be a Orpington. The combs though no idea what they are. Both are 9 weeks
Welcome to BYC! :frow

I think pullets though I agree not Orps. There's zero wattles (for a non bearded bird, bearding gene inhibits wattle size) or red coloring for the stated age.

Pea comb is correct for Ameraucana.. and a cross between the two would result in pea combs.. but beard and muff are also dominant traits and would be expected.

What color is the skin on bottom of the feet? Is it possible they groomed the beards off each other? Where did they come from?

I love a good mystery! :pop

To me it looks like they have muffs, but they're so small, it looks like they don't. I have 2 chickens with the same thing.

Thank you im so glad to be here! They never had beards as chicks so my guess is EE or some sorta mixed breed lol. There also both very small and have short tails. They came from a small farm. It seems like the breeders weren't very experienced nor knew exactly what they were doing. Unfortunately I figured that out after i purchased them. There feet are very dark and the bottom is like a pinkish color.

Beards can be so subjective because all chickens have facial feathers including under the chin making it get hard to discern at times.

I see exactly what you're talking about in the first pic.. but to me the bird on the right is not bearded and the one on the left is bearded.

The bird in the second pic is beautiful but also non bearded.

Pink feet should be white skin.. which would be accurate for both Orp and Am..

Breed standard can vary some (like Marans and Araucana) depending on which country your in.

Since EE don't have a standard and can be bearded or non.. that's a good guess..

We all start our adventures somewhere (regarding the possible inexperience of the seller), it's nice when someone can give the benefit of the doubt instead of presuming wrong doing!

They're still lovely birds I hope they remain healthy and give you lots of gorgeous (maybe blue) eggs! :wee

I still say pullets.

Male specific pointy saddle feathers will start to be visible as early as 10 weeks and well somewhere close to 16..

Yes, it can be hard, although I do want to clarify. I don't consider those two in the pictures I posted "bearded" either. But they must have the gene in them, as neither of them has wattles.
