"Breeding mutts worsens the poultry hobby for everyone"???

Next time you see this person, tell him, he is a mutt too. Aren't 99% of us humans mutts.
I am a mutt (the Heinz 57 kind), I married a mutt, I have 2 mutt children, 2 mutt dogs & 15 mutt chickens.

It ruins the genetics. Its really sad. I HATE seeing mixes. Like sure, one or two PETS or your own MEAT BIRD, or LAYING BIRDS, but not ever selling birds. I am always afraid of buying a chicken that isnt what its supposed to be :'(

Then it pays to know your birds to be sure you are buying what you think you're buying. Me and my mixed breed birds will be right up here in Arkansas, enjoying a life far away from people that would value something more for its pedigree than for the fact that it's a living being.

hatchery quality silkie setting on some mixed breed eggs right now as a matter of fact. I can promise you my silkie doesn't care what her future chicks pedigree is like. She's mothered everything from purebred turkens to feed store bought polish before and been quite content doing so. When her chicks hatch they will live their lives right here on this farm or end up on a neighbors dinner table. Either way they won't be hurting anyone's breeding program.

But sometimes you can get a better bird! Just like with dogs! Really smart dog breed + another smart dog breed = Genius canine. I can see how it ruins the genetics if a particular color fades out within whatever number generations, like if ya keep crossing splash to splash silkies it will fade out, but the bird itself does not change. It's still a silkie.
But heyy some folks are making khaki and chocolate silkies.. Or whatever.. Something new. Someone should make a chicken with a pretty purpley-red chest like rouen drakes have. I love the purpley-red chest, burgundy is a better word. Or just the burgundy color for the whole chicken. Burgundy and white!
I wish I could make burgundy birds!

Where would I even start? What types of chickens would I start out with? What would I add here and there to improve the burgundy? The shine, the lovely color, the elegance! My dream chicken!

When you get it figured out, let me know. I want a purple chicken. Preferably with a naked neck.

I'd also like to sign up on the 'winged and flying pigs' list. Whenever that breeding program starts, just let me know!!
