I just call mine "project birds"... and truthfully, I am trying to get a certain type of bird... BUT for every bird that is what I want, I probably have 10 that aren't.

... but you just might need those latent genes.

They're my birds and I love 'em.

I suppose if there are only a set number of households in America that are interested in raising chickens at all, and over half of them choose to pay little attention to breeding or intentionally breed crosses, then there may not be enough households left to keep all the vanishing breeds around. If some of these households would switch to carefully managed breeding programs and dedication to one or two breeds, there would be hope for more breeds.
It would be better for "the fancy".

However, I think calling people stupid is unlikely to make them join your cause.

(my favorite cross was Buckeye rooster over Delaware hen for meat birds. I don't tend to breed for unique looks, but they were unique looking cockerels!)

I think you should congratulate 'guy' on having such a problem-free life that his greatest foe is other peoples' chickens. And here I was worried about the health and wellbeing of my family, man was I off base! Curse those mongrel chickens, ruining........ stuff! *shakes fist*

You should have offered to give him your hearty hybrids the next time his entire flock catches something and dies. Only humans think a lack of genetic diversity is a strong-point. Mother nature is more than happy to take advantage of genetic weakness due to overly-inbred critters. I am by no means attacking people who own purebreds (own some myself), I just think it's highly entertaining that your preference for more genetically viable birds is supposedly 'stupid'.

And above all, remember: Not everyone is blessed with a mother good enough to teach them the value of manners. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar, and yelling at the flies to like vinegar doesn't work in the slightest.

I'm a she and I believe in the "treat others like you would want to treat them" rule. How would a person feel if I came up to them and told them that they were fat and no one would ever want to be near them? They would feel horrible or shrug it off if they were used to harsh opinions like that. And if they were used to harsh opinions like that, that's even terrible-er! I don't like negative opinions and when they do come at me I'm usually okay with it, because children and immature teens do it. I'm okay with that. They have time to learn.
When it comes from an adult, first thing that comes to my mind is "was that really neccessary?".
I'm not ordering anyone to not have negative opinions, but I would suggest to an adult that insulting a teen through the web is an immature act. In real life it's immature also. Best thing is, if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all. <-- In my opinion it is anyways.
