"broken" split feathers?

I have a question about my hens whose feathers have gotten like "split ends" on all their feathers... it's been since the winter. Anyone have any idea of why that might be happening? Here's a picture:

Is there roost next to a fence or something their feathers are touching?

Thanks for the link. My broody hen's feathers look terrible. She had her chicks Wed, so she is eating more and moving around a bit. Her breast feathers are gone and her wing feathers have missing pieces.
is there any kind of dietary supplement to give her or nature will take care of itself?
