I am in Northern Vermont and have an enclosed porch that can be a bit chilly, but not overly cold. I don't have an exact temp for it, but am going to place a thermometer out there this afternoon to track it. I'd say it's usually "sweatshirt cold" this time of year, but you don't need a coat. And on sunny days, it's actually "tshirt warm". Once the chicks are about 2 weeks old, could I keep the brooder on the porch since they have a heat source in it? I know they won't be fully feathered by then, but my thinking is that in the natural world, the chicks would be under their mother for warmth, come out to eat/drink then go back when they want warmth. So if they were being raised "naturally", they would be going in and out anyway. I use a heat plate for my heating source so they basically follow that same principal right now, just without an actual mother hen. What do you guys think? Could I move them out to the porch?
