Brooder Tank

Just made a little brooder tank for the arriving chicks in a few days! Can't wait! If you are wondering I also have a brooder lamp to go with it. Do y'all think it will be fine for them?

I used a 20 gallon fish tank, a stuffed Dino and a therapeutic heat pad. I had no brood lamp and all my 3 chicks did just fine.

I have a little gord with hay in it where they will sleep.

Newly hatched chicks need 95F heat for the first week. They will not produce enough body heat to survive on their own. You need a heat source. (This heat requirement declines 5F per week)

I would take out the gourd so that the chicks have direct access to heat. They will self-regulate their body temperature by moving towards or away from the heat. "Trapping" them in the gourd will prevent this activity.

I know they do, but I just put it in there incase they get to warm.
