Hi Everyone
i'm giving an update to Gracie & Mr Chubbs hatching situation. When we went out to their house this am we could hear peeping under Gracie. We were so excited (all of us being 1st timers Gracie included ). We expected to see little fuzzy heads when we got home from work. Hubby even got out early to finish the modified living arrangements for the new hatches. We've been letting momma take care of everything with us just providing support. Well when I called hubby to check in expecting to hear that all was well...........
The baby that hatched this morning ended up not making it. Hubby said when he checked he could see broken egg shell but couldn't hear anyone peeping like we did in the am. So he took a look under her. He said the chick was dry & fluffy but seemed to have had a twisted neck.
( if I knew how to make the crying face I would put it here)
He thought maybe the chick tried to move under momma and thats how it happened. We just don't know. There are still 3 more eggs that we are hopeful about. He said 2 are heavy and the 3rd seems lighter in weight but still weighty. I'm gonna try to borrough a stephascope (spelling sorry) to see if i can hear anything going on inside of them. Today was day 20. We are so bummin but are keeping our fingers and toes crossed for the rest.
Hubby moved the nest to the floor area (she was up in her nesting box which is about 14x12 x 12in high). I know it was suggested that we not move the nest until everyone hatched but he wanted to give her as much room as possible to avoid a repeat disaster.
O We are so sad right now. Please send some good thoughts Gracies way. She's worked so hard the last 3 weeks. We knew that things may not go as planned but it's still sad none the less. Hopefuly next post will be good news.
ps
any suggestions to improve the situation would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
